Accommodations

All yacht interiors are a compromise between form and function, but Bill Crealock attained close to the ideal compromise when he designed the Pacific Seacraft 40. It is a bright, airy, and spacious yacht while at anchor, but when you're offshore in a blow, a rugged grab rail is never out of reach, the galley is still functional, there are good sea berths, and you can use the nav station and head without dripping saltwater throughout the entire boat.

Upon stepping below, the advantages of the Crealock 40 interior are readily apparent. The head is at the base of the companionway to port, which allows easy access, and the shower stall provides the ideal place to hang foul weather gear to dry. The double cabin to starboard provides a quiet area for the off-watch to sleep soundly with a minimum of pitching motion. The "G" shaped galley next forward to starboard allows the dual deep sinks to be almost exactly on the vessel's centerline while also providing the cook a counter to lean against. The nav station just forward of the head on port is large with a comfortable forward facing seat. The port settee and U-shaped starboard dinette provide good sea berths or a great socializing area once in port. The forward cabin is very large and airy with an overhead hatch. The expansive, Epifanes-coated teak throughout the interior looks beautiful, the Corian countertops immediately catch your eye, and the chrome-plated bronze ports have a solid, rugged beauty to them.

Many of the high quality construction features are sometimes not readily apparent but make all the difference. For example, consider the bulkheads that are not only fiberglassed to the hull and deck, but also through-bolted. All the floorboards have positive lock downs. All locker doors are louvered to facilitate ventilation. The zippered headliner allows access to wire runs and beefy backing plates for all deck-mounted hardware. Little items like this abound on "EVERGREEN" and are the details that define a serious cruising boat.

Main Salon

The main salon is open and light filled with 6'5" headroom, large overhead hatch and 6 opening ports. Featuring a straight settee to port and a U-shaped dinette/settee to starboard with a large table that easily drops on a gas spring pedestal to convert this area to a large comfortable sea berth. Most of the tankage on this boat is either below the cabin sole or the berths so much of the area under and behind the settees is storage. There is also additional storage in four lockers above the settees as well as two alcoves for book storage.

Aft of the port settee is the navigation area with a very large solid Teak navigation desk with storage. There is optional drawer storage with Nav seat locker, and more under the floor and in two lockers outboard.

There are two stainless steel sinks just off of centerline with hot and cold pressure water, foot pump for fresh water and a Seagull water filter spigot. An icebox drain also is plumbed to drain into the sink. The refrigeration is the Glacier Bay Mark II system with three holding plates, two in the freezer and one in the refrigerated side with thermometers installed above. This system is driven by either a 110 volt shore system or the engine. In addition to the two top opening hatches the refrigerator has the optional Glacier Bay vacuum panel side opening door, which allows access to the bottom of the box easily. Sides and top panels are Glacier Bay vacuum panels. Outboard is the gimbaled Force 10 stove with three burners, oven and broiler. The countertops are Corian.

Hull & Deck Construction Details

The general skin laminate is clad in an isophthalic-npg gelcoat finish. Just inside of the gelcoat, a mat layer laminated with vinylester resin begins the hull skin laminate. The laminate continues with isophthalic resin laminated biaxial rovings.

The hull bottom is solid fiberglass up to the design waterline. Underwater sections of the hull are coated in an epoxy system.

The hull topsides are cored above the waterline with Baltek balsa core.  While it is a costly process the balsa core augments panel stiffness, and increases thermal and sound insulation.  The increased stiffness-to-weight ratio improves the payload carrying ability.

The hull and deck flanges are bedded in polyurethane and through-bolted with stainless steel bolts. The joint is then sealed with a teak rubbing strake.

Chain plates for the cap shrouds and intermediate shrouds are through-bolted into the hull, and the lowers bolted to the deck with backing plates.

Primary bulkheads are bolted as well as bonded to the hull and deck, and internal moldings bonded in with mat and woven rovings.

The underside of the deck, bilges and inside of the hull are gel coated to facilitate cleaning.

Keel & Rudder Details

The Shoal draft ballast keel, a Crealock design, is cast of antimonial lead. It is attached externally to provide the maximum righting moment for a given amount of ballast.  Since it is mounted externally, the lead can also sustain impact and abrasion from grounding without damage to fiberglass surfaces.

The ballast is attached with ten 1" keel bolts and bedded in epoxy at the joint with the solid fiberglass keel boss.  Each bolt is attached on the inside of the hull with a stainless steel backing plate bedded in epoxy, washers and nuts locked with epoxy.

The rudder skeg forms a protective foundation for rudder attachment and an aperture for the propeller and shaft to protect them from damage and fouling.  There is a ½” steel spine inside the skeg encased in filled resin.  A molded-in recess at the bottom of the skeg accepts the heavy bronze gudgeon that supports the lower end of the rudderstock.
