Interior

The interior of the Tartan Piper 28 feels wide and open due to the nearly 10' beam and great 6' head room.  It is stunning how big it feels down below for the size, especially when compared to similar models. Forward is a private cabin with a v-berth, lockers and a hanging locker.  A large overhead hatch provides great light and ventilation. Inside the cabin is the enclosed head, with a toilet, sink and stand up shower.

The salon has a long settee to starboard with a beautiful teak dining table that can be stored on the forward bulkhead allowing more room. This settee can be converted into a double berth if needed. You'll find good storage in the cabinets above and behind the seat backs. To port is a proper nav station with a large chart table and captains chair. Just aft is the cozy but nicely equipped galley complete with a 2 burner stove and proper refrigeration. To starboard is an open quarter berth. The interior has been beautifully and thoughtfully modernized, including LED lighting and a new 12,000 BTU AC unit to keep you cool on those hot summer nights.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1994 Tartan 28 Piper is a well-regarded sailboat that offers a blend of classic design and solid performance. Here are some of the key pros and cons to consider:

Pros

Quality Construction: Built with attention to detail and durable materials, the Tartan 28 Piper is known for its sturdy fiberglass hull and quality craftsmanship.

Classic Design: Featuring a timeless aesthetic, the 28 Piper combines traditional lines with modern touches, appealing to sailors who appreciate classic styling.

Good Sailing Performance: With a well-balanced keel and efficient sail plan, this boat provides responsive handling and solid performance in a variety of wind conditions.

Comfortable Interior: The interior layout is thoughtfully designed for a 28-foot boat, offering comfortable accommodations for cruising, including a functional galley and sleeping quarters.

Ease of Handling: Its manageable size and sail plan make it suitable for both experienced sailors and those newer to sailing, offering easy single or short-handed operation.

Reputation and Support: As part of the Tartan line, it benefits from a strong owner community and access to parts and advice.

Cons

Limited Space: While comfortable for its size, the 28-foot length means interior space is limited compared to larger cruisers, which may be a consideration for extended trips.

Age-Related Maintenance: Being a 1994 model, some components may require updating or maintenance, including rigging, electronics, or plumbing, depending on previous care.

Performance Limits: While capable, it may not match the speed or agility of more modern, performance-oriented 28-footers, especially in light wind conditions.

Engine Size: The auxiliary engine is adequate but may feel underpowered in strong currents or challenging docking situations.

Resale Market: Niche appeal means it may take longer to sell compared to more mainstream models, though it holds value well among enthusiasts.
