She also features an improved Ron Holland designed bulb keel which enhances her performance over peer 391s. Raven's black hull and gold sheer stripe is a stunning departure from the standard white and blue Swans of the era.
Below decks, the original Nautor finish remains in excellent condition. The Swan 391 has a spacious aft cabin with both double and single berths. Ron Holland managed to fit a spacious and comfortable aft cabin into this 40-footer, and the entire works as well or better than some larger Swans.
Raven harkens back to a time when boats could be both raced effectively and cruised comfortably. She is fast and nimble, yet will take anything that is thrown at her.
Accommodations
Raven's interior is beautifully finished in teak with teak and holly cabin sole. Her interior woodwork is in excellent condition, showing little wear. The upholstery has been updated and is also in excellent condition.
Starting in the bow, the forepeak is devoted to sail and line storage, with a ladder leading to the foredeck via large hatch. There is a teak grate covering a draining sump.
The head is on the starboard side. There's a sink, counter and plenty of storage. There is a telescoping faucet for showering. Immediately to port is a large double-door cabinet.
The salon features a pilot berth to port and bookshelves to starboard above the settee with a table that expands to accommodate six.
Moving aft, there is a L shaped, compact but efficient galley to port with a large refrigerator accessed through the countertop. The gimballed Eno stove is protected by a stainless crash bar. The navigation station is to starboard, and is well laid out for voyage planning and monitoring with a B&G chartplotter and communications equipment, including VHF and SSB radio.
The interior is typical for Swans of the time, with a seven-step companionway ladder from deck to floor level and a large bridge deck. This layout provides abundant interior volume, allowing a roomy aft cabin. In the aft cabin there is a double berth to port and a single berth to starboard, both with reading lights. The double berth has a new, fitted mattress cover. There are shelves overhead on the bulkhead.

Brief history from Raven's owner:
Nautor Swan 391/028 was originally specified and ordered by Dr. Michael Sylvanovich, a physician who I recall lived in the Midwest. The boat was built in 1984 and delivered to Newport, Rhode Island where it was kept in the water during the summer months and indoor storage during the winter. The original name of the boat was CYGNET. The original owner used it for racing and family cruising on the East Coast. The boat was originally ordered with a low draft Sheel keel but proved to be uncompetitive. I was told that the owner employed Ron Holland to design a full draft fin keel (with a more modern bulb) which was fabricated and installed by a yard in Newport. The original owner ordered a new Swan 44 in 1999 and put CYGNET on the market.
I bought the boat in 1999, (a fiftieth birthday present to myself). It was shipped to Swantown Marina in Olympia, Washington where it remained until my retirement from work in 2012. I then moved the boat to Port Townsend coinciding with my own move to Italy where I currently live. For the past 12 years, I have kept the boat at the Sea Marine yard at Point Hudson where I launched it each year for approximately two to three summer months of cruising. I commissioned a full boat cover in 2014 to further protect the boat from the elements in my absence.
The boats hailing port is Portland, Oregon because that is where we lived and worked, but the boat has never been outside Northwest inland waters with the exception of one cruise to Barkley Sound. During its time in Olympia, the boat was used solely for weekend cruising of the South Sound or once-a-year cruises to the San Juans, Gulf Islands, and Desolation Sound. On one occasion during a sabbatical break, the boat was sailed as far north as Port Hardy. The boat has never been raced during my ownership.
My experience with the boat has been incredibly enjoyable. The boat is a dream to sail, very seaworthy, and very fast. The position of the self-tailing winches aft make the boat easy to single handle. Visibility from the steering position is excellent. The only reason I'm selling her is my age, 75.
