The Hinckley Bermuda 40 may be considered one of our industries most iconic sailboat brands ever built. And this exceptionally well maintained B40 Yawl could not be a better example. Whiffus II may be best described as "a brand new old boat!" The perfect blend of classic Bill Tripp lines, Hinckley craftsmanship and lots and lots of modern day systems and equipment. After a massive 2006-2008 refit, Whiffus II re-launched with a new lease on life. With over 3 full pages of improvements in her listing, it would be easier to describe what was not addressed! This unique B40 Yawl is yearning for that special sailing enthusiast not just looking to buy a boat; but looking for a nostalgic relationship with a true sailing classic with the willingness and desire to become the next lucky steward. Launched in 2023 (and again in 2024) this B40 Yawl has been lightly sailed since her refit. She is currently inside her storage building and priced to sell quickly at $159,000.
Whiffus II is a unique and beautifully maintained Hinckley Bermuda B40 yawl. She has had all her major systems updated in the last 16 years (most in a major refit 2006-2008). She has a custom Herreshoff-styled interior in excellent condition. This B40 has been exceptionally well maintained with continual improvements over time. Whiffus II is perfect for the buyer looking for that iconic classic sailboat but with more modern equipment/systems.
Whiffus II may well be one of the nicest B40's in existence today. Thanks to a massive 2006-2008 refit, this 1970 B40 Yawl offers all the nostalgia of her era but with all the modern technology available today. The bright and cheerful Herreshoff-styled interior provides a great combination of white bulkheads and high gloss varnished cherry trim. Exceptionally plush and cozy interior blue cushions with backrests provide luxurious comfort. A beautiful Luke fireplace with blue and white delft tiles provides heat for the main salon and cabin on those typical chilly Maine summer nights.
The owner's cabin is forward, where a large custom inner spring mattress berth provides spacious sleeping accommodations for two and storage below. A hanging locker is to starboard and dresser to port with custom TV cabinet and locker. A large opening overhead hatch provides great light and ventilation, along with several opening port lights in the cabin sides. The forepeak anchor/chain locker can be accessed through doors at the head of the berth. The cabin head is to port and equipped with an electric toilet and 17 gallon aluminum holding tank (w/ a fitting to connect to a potential 2nd tank - not included.) Y-valve and overboard discharge macerator pump, hand-held shower; sink with hot and cold fresh water; Corian counter top and new head cabin sole (refit 2008).
The main salon is bright with white overhead panels and bulkheads with varnished cherry trim. The cabin sole is constructed of Hinckley's signature "teak & holly" woods; solid with the + shaped holly spline and not a veneer. The settees to port and starboard are over-size and pull out to make large single berths. Cushions are plush and covered with royal blue fabric (w/second set of covers). All interior port lights have blue curtains (2 sets) for privacy. The large custom dining table with drop leaf seats 6 comfortably. The custom brass Luke tile fireplace is to starboard; a truly unique addition to this cozy salon. A second hanging locker is located to starboard across from the head. A large overhead opening hatch provides more great light and ventilation. Additional climate control is provided via the reverse-cycle air conditioning system as well as (3) 12v comfort fans.
