"Thistle" was the last "stick built" Tartan 3700, a process used in custom boats. Later boats had a fiber glass liner which replaced much of the teak in the cabin, and the stick built boats like Thistle are much more attractive. Thistle also has an aluminum mast, a real advantage in a lightning prone area like Florida. Carbon Fiber masts. though lighter, are subject to delamination when hit by Lightning, and the damage may not be obvious. This is not a problem with aluminum masts. Thistle's spars have been stripped, primed, and repainted."
