Design & Structure

The Catalina Morgan 440 DS was built to inspire confidence offshore while maintaining the livability of a true deck salon. Her lead wing keel offers shoal-draft versatility without compromise, while a partial skeg-hung rudder gives strength and control. Inside, the raised salon is bright and spacious, and thoughtful engineering ensures generous tankage, accessible systems, and long-term durability.

With her moderate comfort ratio (~27.8), offshore-safe capsize screening, and carefully balanced sail plan, this is a yacht equally at home on extended passages and at anchor in a quiet harbor.

Cruising Pedigree

Chasing Sunsets carries a proud cruising history. She has explored the Bahamas and most recently completed a three-month New England voyage, including magical stops in Martha’s

Vineyard, Gloucester, Boothbay Harbor, and New York Harbor — sailing past the Statue of Liberty.

She has transited the Cape Cod Canal and the C&D Canal on several occasions, and even made her way safely through the challenging waters of Woods Hole, MA. Along the way she has also offered remarkable wildlife encounters in Cape Cod Bay, where more than 40 whales and 300 dolphins gathered within just feet of her hull.

She has entertained 16 guests on day sails and carried five aboard comfortably for weeks at a time. Under sail, she has achieved 10.5 knots peak speed and 10.2 knots sustained with main and genoa reefed, proving her performance as much as her comfort. Her presence has even been featured on popular YouTube sailing channels including MJ Sailing and Ryan & Sophie Sailing, underscoring her appeal in action.

Comfort, Storage & Livability

Step below and it’s clear this is more than a cruiser — it’s a floating home. The main salon features dual recliners with a built-in refreshment tray, multiple TVs (including a dropdown ceiling-mount and a swing-arm unit at the nav station), and the SIDEBAR 20-liter 5-liquor adult beverage dispenser for easy entertaining.

The galley has been transformed with a custom gimbaled cabinet housing a dual-induction cooktop paired with a full convection/microwave/air fryer/oven, alongside a built-in spice rack and custom teak cabinetry.

Storage is exceptional, with a walk-in pantry, custom in-bulkhead storage behind the settee, a large garage accessible via pantry or lift-up bookcase, a transom locker, and multiple lazarettes, closets, drawers, and lockers throughout

Major Upgrades & Highlights

This is not a stock Catalina Morgan 440. Chasing Sunsets has been extensively transformed through significant investment in her systems, comfort, and safety.

Her sailing package features a new Quantum mainsail and genoa, all new standing and running rigging, three electric winches (including a Harken with a new motor and two Lewmar units), plus a Maxwell vertical windlass with drum that doubles as a fourth powered winch.

Her power and monitoring suite includes an 810 Ah BattleBorn lithium house bank, a Victron MultiPlus 3000 inverter/charger as the primary unit with a Magnum Pure Sine inverter/charger as backup, a complete Victron monitoring system, a Mitsubishi 80A

alternator, a Balmar 250A alternator, and a Balmar dual alternator external regulator, plus 700W of solar, a Glendinning shore power system with remote, and a bow thruster.

On the electronics side, she carries a Raymarine Axiom 2 Pro 12 at the helm, a Raymarine Axiom+ 9 at the nav station, two Raymarine i70+ displays, Raymarine radar, a Raymarine AIS transponder, PredictWind DataHub, SiriusXM receiver, and an Icom VHF with DSC, all integrated through a full NMEA/SeaTalk network. Connectivity is further enhanced with Starlink satellite internet and a GL-iNet GL-X3000 dual-SIM cellular gateway.

For sound, she features a premium multi-zoned Fusion RA-670 Apollo audio system. Four Polk Atrium 4 speakers can be connected to the dropdown TV for surround-sound movie nights from the recliners. On deck, dual JL Audio M6 enclosed tower coaxial speakers and an 8” JL Audio M6 subwoofer, powered by an M500 marine amplifier, deliver crisp, powerful audio — equally suited for lively gatherings in the cockpit or quiet evenings with music drifting through the cabin.

In plumbing and heads, she is outfitted with dual freshwater pumps, dual electric macerating heads with fresh or raw water flush, an aft head upgraded with a household-size bowl and seat, a whole-boat macerator, a Sweet Air vent system, and custom teak shower flooring in both heads.

Her exterior and safety upgrades include ceramic hull and topside coating, PropSpeed on the propeller, new premium windows in the bimini surround, custom Sunbrella covers, a heated transom shower, swim ladder, stern rail seats, a large cockpit comfortably seating over a dozen passengers, and two EPIRBs with new batteries.

The dinghy package consists of a West Marine RIB with a Ding-EZ stainless boarding rail that doubles as a hands-free steering aid, paired with a new Yamaha 25hp outboard with power start and tilt, showing just 24 hours.

Additional extras include an oil-less 12V air compressor plumbed to the cockpit with dual 50’ Snuba hoses and regulators, a Magma ChefsMate stainless grill, and thousands of dollars in organized spares.

Finally, she is preconfigured for a generator, watermaker, and clothes washer: pre-plumbed and wired with access to raw water, fresh water, fuel, and power, with space reserved for each system.
