This Beneteau 411, owner's version (2 cabin) was build in Marion, SC, USA and has crossed the Atlantic twice. Three years ago, it was converted to an electric drive using an AC Induction Motor (AC-35) kit from Thunderstruck. On days with no wind, the 500W of solar panels power the boat forward at 3 knots without even discharging the batteries.10kWh (48V*200AH) of Nickel Iron (Edison) batteries do not suffer performance degradation with cycling, and offer long life with inexpensive electrolyte changing every 5 years (changed this year). It should be noted that original Edison batteries that are a century old still function today.
THIS TRULY IS A "GREEN" BOAT, LITERALLY, AND ENVIRONMENTALLY. I'M SURE WE WILL SEE MORE LIKE IT. HYBRID ELECTRIC IS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE.
