LEGACY is a very nice example of the popular Hinckley Sou'wester 42 and has benefited from excellent care from her current and previous owners. Used summers in Maine by her current owner and serviced inside heated storage with Hinckley in Southwest Harbor, LEGACY is ready to go for her next owner. Her upgraded electric primary winches and recent sails and a well thought out cockpit make her easy to sail shorthanded. Her classic lines and heirloom quality craftmanship combined with a well thought out design combine in a boat that will last for generations, will turn heads in any harbor and is equally suited for days sailing with friends and family or blue water cruising.

Construction:

Hand laid fiberglass hull and deck. Hull is cored with Airex for additional stiffness and strength per weight. The core is deleted and the hull reinforced with additional laminations in all high stress areas. Hull stringers cored with Airex are bonded to the hull and integrated with the mast step and engine mounts to form a single unit that is strong and light. The deck is set in a 6" flange on the hull, then fiberglassed and bolted in place.

COCKPIT:

This Hinckley SW-42 has a large "T" shaped cockpit with teak-capped coaming which comfortably accommodates a large crew, but is also well laid out for short handed sailing. There are built-in stainless steel-lined coaming pockets and the opening cockpit seats have molded-in nonskid. The teak cockpit sole has built in drainage scuppers. Anderson 52 self tailing two speed electric primary winches are within easy reach of the helmsman so the boat can be tacked single-handed if necessary. The cockpit dodger offers excellent protection, and visibility is unobscured from the helm.

ACCOMMODATIONS & LAYOUT:

Crafted as only Hinckley seems to do - this interior is done in a gorgeous American Cherry with rich varnish finishes. The layout is traditional, but with the preferred u-shaped dinette to port. Cherry hull ceilings throughout. Excellent ventilation and light through both opening and fixed portlights and over head hatches as well as dorades

The forward stateroom is quite luxurious - with generous storage, lighting and ventilation, as well as a private entry to the head. The head has two entrances, significant storage and lighting. Hot and cold pressure water and shower, as well as a manual faucet for preserving energy. The toilet is a Vacuflush, which uses fresh water, minimizing odor

The Salon features a u-shaped galley to port, with a large dining table which can be expanded with a raised leaf. There is storage in the table. To starboard is a pull our settee, as well as a very useful pilot berth. Storage both port and starboard in several drawers and lockers.

Aft to port, the galley is a proper sea-going galley and has all the amenities for life at sea or in port. A large refrigerated box featuring Grunert holding plate refrigeration. A three burner Stainless Steel propane stove, with oven, by Ship mate - top notch. Double stainless steel sinks. Excellent locker storage both out board and aft. A dedicated trash bin on a hinged access panel. And a fold-up cutting board/counter extension.

Aft to starboard is the highly functional navigation station, with a dedicated seat, storage, and proper electronics installations. The electrical panel for both AC and DC systems is at the nav station. Aft of the nav station is many sailor's favorite quarter berth - this one just the right width, with exceptional access.

The engine is positioned under the companionway stairs, with a fully opening forward panel(s) and side access from the starboard side. The engine room is neat and tidy, with excellent access to filters, belts, strainer, etc.

Starting forward, the Owner's Stateroom has "V" berths forward.

A cherry door separates this cabin from the main salon and there is also a private door to the head. There are forward access doors to the forepeak chain locker that is partitioned for chain and rope storage.

HEAD: (Next aft to port)

This head offers private access to the forward owner's cabin and has a separate door to the main salon. The head is finished in cherry wood and has white flooring with teak slats.

MAIN CABIN:

Forward starboard in the Main Cabin, across from the head, are a full-length cedar lined hanging locker with shelf over and a bureau with a locker over outboard, forward of the settee. The main salon area features a Dinette to port and a full length settee with pilot berth above to starboard.

• A large double-opening overhead hatch with screen is above the dining table.

• The U-shaped Dinette is to port with a varnished cherry drop-leaf dining table A drop-leaf allows for easy access. There is storage in and behind the settees.
• Forward and aft lockers are outboard the dinette with a center alcove bookshelf.
• Oil lamp and a stereo speaker are mounted on the forward bulkhead
• (2) 12V brass lamps - mounted fore and aft in the dinette area

Navigation Station:

Aft of the starboard settee is a full Nav Station that faces forward and has a full-size cherry nav table and built in cushioned nav seat.

A double stainless steel sink has hot and cold pressure water and a manual hand pump for cold water. Lift-top trap locker storage is outboard the sink. There is storage under the sink.

• Outboard is a gimballed Shipmate propane 3-burner stove with oven and broiler. Storage lockers are outboard the stove. Custom matching Formica stove cover provides expanded counter space when needed and hides-away when not in use.
• Aft is lift-top access to the deep-bin refrigeration and freezer with a 12v Grunert refrigeration system
• Over the aft countertop is shelf and locker storage.
