We had this Hinckley Owens 40' ketch last year and the owner took her off the market. She is now available at a super price, but she needs a bit of work.
Yanmar Diesel with 200 hours, newer tanks, liferaft. Vessel appears structurally sound with fiberglass skins. 13 layers of fiberglass on hull above and below the water line, and on the deck.
This is a 1956 Hinckley Cutter that was constructed at the Henry R. Hinckley yard in Maine. She was originally built in wood and has been fiberglassed with cloth and resin making the outer skin impervious to water intrusion. The stick has been replaced with aluminum.
She needs some work to bring her back to her former glory but she'll outsail most modern 40 foot classic plastic boats!
In 1949 Hinckley acquired the tooling, patterns and building rights for the Owens Cutters, fast cruising and racing boats built by the Owens Corporation in Maryland. Ten Hinckley Owens 40's were built by Hinckley, becoming forerunners of the Hinckley 41.
This diamond in the rough has been on the hard for 8 years. She has circumnavigated three times and has done numerous transatlantic passages.
She needs some love and plenty of elbow grease. The exterior hull needs paint and the interior needs cleaning, attention to detail and the marine grade plywood floor is functional but should be finished with a nice sole. Her teak decks are in need of attention. Batteries, electronics, cushions should all be addressed/ Sails and engine appear to be one of her best features. Call me for details.
The teak decks have been neglected and will need attention and caulking. The owner reports no leaks from the decks and the subflooring had been replaced with marine grade plywood and glassed in.
