Here's your chance to pick up a well appointed older Island Packet that went through a little hiccup recently. The owner spent loads of money upgrading the systems onboard... new electronics, new stainless dinghy davits and solar panel area, wind generator, and more. But in a recent mishap, the boat partially submerged in the slip. The owner had just replaced the original engine with a brand new Yanmar. The engine did not totally submerge, but enough to make it less than stellar... so the owner had the old engine completely rebuild and spent the time and money to rewire the boat, add the newly rebuilt engine and bring her back to a very solid cruiser.
The interior is in pretty good shape, batteries are new, original engine has less than 5 hours since rebuild. Sails are nearing the end of their useful life... sacrificial cloth needs to be replaced or just replace the head sail and the stay sail. Main is in better shape than the others and might be good for a while. Dodger and bimini are in good shape, might need to replace the Isenglass in the middle windshield. Dinghy and motor are included in the sale.
We have an extensive list of work that was done after the partial submerge of the vessel. All was done by professional craftsmen at a local shipyard.

The Biggest Pros and Cons
The 1991 Island Packet 38 is a well-regarded cruising sailboat known for its solid construction and comfortable accommodations. Here are some pros and cons to consider:
Pros
Sturdy Construction: Built with a robust fiberglass hull and a full keel, the Island Packet 38 offers excellent durability and stability, making it suitable for long-distance cruising.
Comfortable Interior: The spacious and well-designed interior provides ample living space, including a large salon, well-equipped galley, and comfortable sleeping quarters.
Easy Handling: The sail plan and rigging are designed for ease of handling, often manageable by a short-handed crew.
Good Load Carrying Ability: The boat’s displacement allows it to carry cruising gear and supplies without sacrificing performance.
Traditional Aesthetics: Classic lines and a timeless design appeal to sailors who appreciate traditional styling.
Cons
Moderate Speed: Due to its full keel and heavier displacement, the Island Packet 38 is not as fast or agile as lighter, fin-keeled sailboats.
Maneuverability: The full keel design can limit maneuverability in tight marinas or crowded anchorages.
Maintenance: The solid build means more weight and potentially higher maintenance for the keel and hull compared to lighter designs.
Older Systems: Depending on the specific boat and upgrades, some onboard systems may be dated and require modernization.
Limited Performance Upwind: The design favors comfort and stability over racing performance, which might be a consideration for sailors looking for speed and agility.
