The Hans Christian 33T was designed by Harwood Ives, with the first boats being built at the state of the art facilities at the Hansa Yacht Und Shifbau Yard in Taiwan (1980-87) during the "Golden Age" of Taiwanese boat building. In total 163 boats were built between 1980 and 2009, with the last recorded boat built in Thailand. "Ventolera" (ex "Quacker Jacque III") is hull #109, built in April of 1986.

The HC 33T is a traditional heavy displacement full keel offshore double-ended cruiser, which offers the same storage area below of that of her larger siblings, the HC 38 and HC 41. The interior layout offers a two stateroom layout with a Pullman berth forward to port with the head and shower stall located forward in the bow and a aft cabin quarter-berth to starboard. The galley is aft of the "L" Shaped salon and offers plenty of storage, a front and top loading refrigeration/freeze, twin sinks and marble counter tops. "Ventolera" comes with the larger Volvo 43hp diesel to power this 20,000 lb+ cruiser at close to hull speed.

The HC 33T is a popular model for those seeking to join the ranks of the "Bohemian life style" and go off to cruise the oceans and far away places. She is a great boat for a couple as a live-aboard offshore cruiser. She is a heavily built, solid, safe, comfortable and seaworthy boat that has remained popular over the years, while still holding higher resale values over other manufactures of offshore double-enders built during the "Golden Age" out of Taiwan and Thailand.

If you are heading to Annapolis for the US Sailboat Show in Oct. and in the market for a affordable offshore cruiser, please feel free to call or email me to set up and appointment to inspect this fine example of a Hansa built HC 33T.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1986 Hans Christian 33T Cutter is a classic bluewater cruiser known for its traditional design and sturdy construction. Here are some pros and cons to consider:

Pros

Solid Construction: Built with a heavy displacement hull and a full keel, the 33T offers excellent stability and durability, making it well-suited for long offshore passages.

Classic Aesthetic: Its traditional lines, teak woodwork, and cutter rig give it timeless appeal and a charming, classic sailing experience.

Comfortable Interior: Thoughtfully laid out with quality craftsmanship, the interior provides ample storage, a functional galley, and comfortable accommodations for extended cruising.

Good Load Carrying: The design handles heavy loads well, which is ideal for bluewater cruising with plenty of gear and provisions.

Reliable Rigging: The cutter rig offers versatility in sail plan options, allowing for easier sail handling in varied wind conditions.

Cons

Heavier and Slower: The solid build and full keel contribute to a heavier boat that is generally slower compared to more modern designs with fin keels and lighter displacement.

Maintenance Intensive: The traditional wooden trim and classic fittings require regular upkeep to maintain their condition and appearance.

Limited Maneuverability: The full keel design, while stable, can reduce agility and make tight docking or close-quarters maneuvering more challenging.

Interior Space: While comfortable, the interior layout can feel more compact compared to newer 33-foot cruisers that maximize volume with modern hull shapes.

Made For

The 1986 Hans Christian 33T Cutter is ideal for sailors seeking a classic, sturdy cruising sailboat built for comfort and long-distance voyaging.
