Broker’s comments: "Nereus" is a second generation of the C&C 33. The rare keel-centerboard version is great for those hard to get into marinas with shallow dockage. With a racing pedigree, it is also a nice family cruiser. The traveler has been moved to the coachroof so there’s more room in the cockpit. Large self-tailing winches are easily located port and starboard of the helm where there’s a compass on the binnacle and the engine controls for the diesel are well within easy reach. There are 3 deck hatches for better ventilation, and anchor locker, double lifelines with gates port & starboard. Stainless Steel bow and stern pulpits and solid toe rail mounted stanchions surround the deck for added safety. Below decks you’ll find a generous V berth forward with ample storage and hanging locker. Following is a large marine head with pressure hot & cold water for a shower before going to the club. A marine toilet, mirrors, and cubbies for storage finish out the head area. The main salon offers seating both port and starboard with a centerline teak table with 2 fold out leaves which seat 4 comfortably. The port seat folds out to form a double berth. There is more storage on shelves outboard and under the starboard seating. To starboard at the base of the companionway step is a good sized galley containing a propane stove/oven, ice box and plenty of storage spaces for weekend getaways. Opposite to starboard is a nav station with the 110v & 12v panels, chart table and drawers for added storage. Directly behind is a very ample Quarterberth with storage underneath. Access to the engine is simple by lifting off the companionway steps where most of the engine is easily accessible. The owner has limited time to use the boat which prompts this sale. Always fresh water use, never seen salt! Located at our buffalo Marina and can be seen at any time.

Customers appreciate the 1986 C&C 33 Keel/Centerboard for its versatile design and solid performance

Many highlight its combination of a fixed keel with a centerboard as a major advantage, allowing for both good upwind sailing and access to shallower waters. Owners often praise the boat’s sturdy construction and responsive handling, making it suitable for both cruising and club racing. The spacious interior and practical layout also receive positive remarks, providing comfortable accommodations for extended trips. Overall, the 1986 C&C 33 Keel/Centerboard is regarded as a well-balanced sailboat that delivers reliability and enjoyment on the water.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1986 C&C 33 Keel/Centerboard offers a versatile and well-regarded sailing experience, combining performance with practical features. Here are some of the pros and cons of this model:

Pros

Versatile Draft Options: The keel/centerboard design allows for a shallow draft when the centerboard is raised, making it easier to navigate shallow waters and access more anchorages, while still providing good upwind performance when the board is lowered.

Performance-Oriented Design: True to C&C’s reputation, the 33 features a balanced hull and efficient sail plan, delivering responsive handling and solid sailing performance both upwind and downwind.

Good Interior Layout: The boat offers comfortable accommodations for its size, with a functional interior that suits cruising and weekend trips.

Quality Construction: Built by C&C Yachts, the 33 is known for solid construction and durable materials, contributing to longevity and reliability.

Manageable Size: At 33 feet, it strikes a good balance between ease of handling for a small crew and enough space for cruising comfort.

Cons

Maintenance of Centerboard Mechanism: The keel/centerboard system requires regular inspection and maintenance to ensure smooth operation and prevent corrosion or mechanical issues.

Limited Storage Space: Like many boats in this size range, storage can be somewhat limited, which may require careful organization for extended cruising.

Older Design Features: As a mid-1980s model, some aspects of the design and onboard systems may feel dated compared to more modern sailboats, potentially requiring updates or upgrades.

Performance Trade-Offs: While versatile, the keel/centerboard setup may not perform quite as well as a fixed deep keel in certain racing conditions, especially in heavy weather.

Made For

The 1986 C&C 33 Keel/Centerboard is ideal for sailors seeking a versatile and performance-oriented cruiser. Its design suits those who want the flexibility of a shallow draft for exploring coastal waters and anchorages, combined with the stability and upwind capability provided by the centerboard. Whether you're an experienced cruiser looking for a responsive and comfortable boat or a keen sailor interested in club racing and coastal cruising, the C&C 33 Keel/Centerboard offers a balanced blend of speed, handling, and cruising comfort.
