Owners Comments and Boat History

Jade’s history was recently relayed through Derek Holding, previous owner and CEO of International Yacht Charter Group, Inc. The vessel was originally imported to the United States when purchased from Ta Shing in 1989 and is believed to have had two or three owners prior. Derek and his wife used the vessel as their personal yacht and lived aboard for much of their ownership. Documented cruising history includes Killarney, Ireland, New England, and extensive time throughout the Caribbean.

The current owners purchased Jade in 1999 and lived aboard for several years before relocating due to a career opportunity flying floatplanes in Alaska. There is no record of charter use, and it is confirmed the vessel has remained privately owned throughout its life.

Spacious Interior: With a well-designed layout, the interior of the Taswell 49 offers generous living space, including multiple cabins, a large saloon, and a fully equipped galley, making it comfortable for extended voyages.

Beautiful Aesthetics: The yacht’s classic lines and elegant wooden interior create a timeless appeal, making it visually appealing both on the water and at anchor.

Cons

Maintenance Requirements: Like many older yachts, the Taswell 49 may require significant maintenance to keep it in top condition, including addressing wear and tear on both the interior and exterior.

Weight: While the heavy construction offers durability, it can also result in slower sailing speeds compared to lighter modern designs, particularly in lighter winds.

Older Technology: Being built in 1989, some of the onboard systems and technologies may be outdated, requiring upgrades for those seeking modern navigation and entertainment features.

Limited Availability of Parts: As a model that’s no longer in production, finding specific replacement parts may be more challenging compared to newer yachts.

Performance Limitations: While it performs well as a cruising yacht, it may not match the speed and responsiveness of more contemporary performance-focused designs, which could be a consideration for racing enthusiasts.
