The Tartan 31 was introduced in 1987. Designed by Tim Jacket of Sparkman & Stephens with a more contemporary look and oriented to more performance to compete in the burgeoning cruiser/racer market. She has that big boat feel in a 31-foot framework. She has much more interior volume that the earlier Tartan 31 & a more modern under water profile. Regarded for her balance & stiffness driven by her moderate displacement & well-proportioned fractional rig. Unlike many masthead rigs, her fractional set up allows for easier mainsail depowering making it a favorite for short-handed sailors. She has a deep, balanced spade rudder for immediate feedback & exceptional maneuverability in tight quarters. The main cabin is traditional, yet functional with a U-shaped galley to starboard & a nav station to port. There is a table that folds down and stows on the bulkhead when not in use. There are two settees. The forward cabin sleeps two as well as the aft cabin with hanging locker. Total sleeping capacity is 6. The head is just aft of the forward cabin. The teak joinery, a hallmark of Tartan boats, is used extensively providing a warm, high-end feel, which also helps to hold its value. The cabin sole is teak & holly. The Tartan 31 is a high quality, American built cruiser with no compromise to sailing pedigree. Owner has owned the boat for 25 years and claims it is in above average condition. Always a fresh water boat - never in charter. They are looking to move into a larger boat.
