We've sold a few boats over the years with Ford Lehman diesels and have noted the distinction of these engines over many of the other diesels more commonly found on sailboats. Based on Ford tractor engines, these marinized powerplants are unusual in that they regularly outlast their more traditional counterparts. Many small block normally aspirated diesel engines will reach 12,000-13,000 running hours with a "rebuild" often required at about half that amount.
