S/V MITERNE..... This sailing yacht is for voyaging the world's oceans.
Description
The stunning MITERNE offers an opportunity to own a superb voyaging sailing yacht. This one-of-a-kind custom-built Perry 51 is a work of fine furniture encased in a strong, welded steel hull designed by one of the world's preeminent cruising yacht designers, Robert H. Perry and outfitted with the highest quality equipment and fittings available when she was constructed in 1991.The result is a safe, elegant and comfortable world cruiser of the highest quality. The interior spaces are bathed in abundant amounts of natural light through many port lights and overhead hatches throughout the yacht. Stunning interior woodwork, that modern builders struggle to replicate, give a warm feel to the main salon, galley and her cabins. The protected center cockpit with full cockpit enclosure and teak cockpit grating keep crew safe and sound while underway. Configured as a cutter MITERNE is a powerful sailing vessel. a well-balanced, manageable cruising rig that performs steadily without overpowering a small crew. She is properly set up with rigging and sail handling systems appropriate for shorthanded sailing of a cruising vessel of this size. Central to this is the hydraulic-in mast mainsail furling which is operated from the cockpit, no sail covers or lazy jacks to take care of. The center cockpit is laid out for shorthanded sailing with large hydraulic Lewmar 66 ST primary winches for sail trim. Her helm pedestal has Edson wheel steering with Richie compass, a teak cockpit table and Garmin navpod radar/chartplotter. Sailing Instrument repeaters are located at the top of the companionway. The Perry 51 has a full long keel with skeg-hung rudder, providing ultimate tracking stability and rudder protection from ocean debris. A robust, heavy-displacement hull signature promises comfortable for motion-kindly ocean passages. The organized sloop/cutter sail plan for the MITERNE provides a versatile array of sail plans for varying wind conditions. In heavy weather, the ability to fly a staysail while reefing the main keeps the center of effort low and balanced. While it is not a "light air flyer" due to its substantial wetted surface area, once the wind exceeds 12-15 knots, the Perry 51 finds its stride. The past owners frequently report that the vessel tracks exceptionally well, requiring minimal input from an autopilot or a wind vane during long stretches of downwind trade-wind sailing. Perhaps the most unique and smart feature is the stepped scoop transom which makes it very easy to come and go from the yacht from a dingy or when med-moored. The "Verdict" - MITERNE is an "honest" yacht-it does not pretend to be a racing machine, but it promises to keep its crew safe and comfortable in conditions that would turn back lighter vessels. MITERNE has been lovingly maintained with many upgrades and major maintenance documented throughout her life. It remains a premier choice for couples or families seeking a classic, high-volume cruiser with a pedigree of excellence. Her bright green Awlgrip hull, fair entry into the water, cutter rig, sweet sugar scoop stern and handsome lines have heads turning undersail and while alongside the dock. She is ready to take new caretakers on fresh adventures and to make memories for a new captain and crew.

Design and Construction
Conceived as a heavy, rugged offshore passage maker prioritizing structural integrity and safety over light-displacement racing designs. designed for extended remote living fitted out with massive tankage capacities deep in the bilge, The steel hull and deck were fabricated by Dieter Pollack at Riverbend Metal Corp in Port Coquitlam, BC. Dieter is one of the best steel boat builders in the world and well known for his Amazon series of steel cruising boats. The hull is built using the radius chine method of construction. After welding, the hull insides and exterior were sandblasted to white metal and primed with three coats of Devoe 235 epoxy. Two four-inch diameter steel pipes are welded into the hull and connected by rubber hose to the cockpit drains. Most seawater intakes are via two nipples and Marelon through hull valves off the port standpipe. Most overboard discharges are plumbed to the port standpipe via a stainless-steel manifold located well above the waterline. This arrangement minimizes through hulls and provides a vented loop for bilge pump and other overboard discharges. Other through hull fittings are welded-in steel nipples and threaded Marelon through hull valves. All through hulls are easily accessed. Most deck hardware is mounted with drilled and tapped stainless steel machine screws into the steel deck After the hull and deck were completed, this boat was trucked to Seattle for fit out of the interior, systems, and rig. The entire interior was coated with urethane foam for insulation. In the bilges this foam is coated with a rubberized urethane coating to seal out water The interior and systems were completed over the course of a year. The equipment and systems aboard MITERNE were selected and installed after careful consideration by project manager Bob Berg of Tatoosh Marine. Hardware with high tensile loading, including the anchor windlass, traveler base, running backstay padeyes and outhaul turning block are through bolted for extra strength. The spars and furling gear are by Hood with the sails by the Hood Sails and Seattle North loft. The cutter rig was chosen for ease of hand-ling and the use of Hood's hydraulic furling gear operated from the Lewmar Commander hydraulics package make for very easy operation.

Interior accommodations
The interior accommodation space of MITERENE is long on stowage, comfort, quality joinery, and elegance. One proceeds down six steps from the center cockpit to the very light and single level interior. From the companionway ladder, one steps down to the salon/galley. The companionway ladder is in itself a work of fine furniture; built of solid walnut it has six wide treads with inlaid Tread master teak colored non-skid. This ladder has cutout handholds in the side boards. For engine access either the lower two steps or the entire companionway can be slid out of the way to access the front of the main engine and primary fuel filters. The engine gage and alarm panel is beneath the first step. A hinged kick plate lifts to access the 24V battery selector switch, emergency 12V house to start crossover switch, the hydraulic power breaker, and manual pull for the engine room Halon extinguisher. Leather strips are glued onto the companionway ladder bottom allowing it to slide along the cabin sole without scratching. A removable storage bin for hatch boards and pump handles is located to starboard and a trash bin to port of the companionway. The galley is immediately to port of the companionway ladder. The countertop is beige Corian. From forward to aft, a large counter sits atop the front-loading refrigerator. Outboard is the gimbaled Force 10 LPG stove front-loading with oven and broiler. Beneath the deck edge, dish cabinets flank the stove. A spice rack and overhead florescent light are above and outboard of the stove. Pan storage is in a cabinet beneath the stove and five utensil drawers are forward of the stove. Along the aft edge of the galley is the deep double stainless-steel sink. This sink drains directly overboard through a Marelon through hull fitting and 1 1/2" hose. A Scandvik single lever faucet supplies fresh water to the sink. A separate spigot is supplied by a manual fresh water foot pump. Above the sink are two varnished walnut cup racks and microwave oven. A cabin fan, two overhead spot lights and two 110V outlets with GFI keep the galley lit and powered. Two louvered doors access a large storage cabinet beneath the sink. A trash bin with hinged lid and lift out canvas liner is inboard against the companionway ladder. The navigation station is to starboard of the companionway. A large, slightly angled chart table hinges open to access a top loading, stainless steel lined freezer. The fridge and freezer control/displays are mounted below this pane A 12V outlet is located at this shelf for charging batteries or powering portable electronics. A flex-arm light can swing over the chart table for illuminating charts or laptops at night. Outboard along the starboard hull side, beneath the deck edge, mounted in a hinged panel are the tank gages, inverter remote control, VHF radio, B&G multi, GPS/plotter, and corrosion monitor. This panel hinges down to easily access wiring for this equipment. The 12V DC distubution panel is further aft. A digital thermometer for the freezer and 110V GFI outlet is mounted below the chart table. The Trace inverter/charger is mounted beneath the nav seat. The main salon is set apart from the galley and navigation station by half height bulkheads. Headroom is generally 6'5" through the boat as proffered by the hull's moderate freeboard and coach roof. Immediately evident is the furniture-quality, wood joinery. Bulkheads and flat surfaces are book matched maple in a satin finish. Trim is solid walnut. Cabinet and cabin doors are louvered, raised panel and of solid walnut. All walnut trim and doors are varnished. Cabinet doors are fitted with "push to close" latches for easy opening and secure latching. The cabin sole is of ½" thick solid maple on top of marine plywood. All drawers have solid maple sides dovetailed to walnut faces. All lockers are completely finished on the inside with white laminate. The overhead is white laminate secured with walnut battens. Ample chrome fixture area and task lights with wall switches are located in each space. Many of the overhead spot lights are on dimmer circuits for extra control. 110V outlets, red night lights along the sole, cabin fans, and opening ports and hatches are found throughout the interior. Storage on MITERNE is simply amazing; better than any other boat of this size range. Few and far between are the boats that actually have enough storage space on deck and below for all the gear, spare parts, clothes, toys, books, and other belongings most families enjoy and need. Designer Robert Perry wisely chose to provide copious hanging lockers, storage cabinets, drawers, bins, and other spaces instead of building the salon and staterooms all the way to the hull sides. Starting forward is a storage/guest cabin with convertible single/double berth with access to the chain locker. Next aft is the guest stateroom with a double pullman berth to port, ensuite head to starboard and large storage locker aft to starboard. The main salon has a dinette to port and a straight settee to starboard. A passageway leads aft along the starboard side with lockers outboard and access to the walk-in engine room inboard. The master stateroom is accessed through the starboard side passageway. A curved, walnut-trimmed opening in the companionway bulkhead partitions the nav station from this corridor. Outboard and forward is a large locker housing the Splendide clothes washer/dryer. Inboard and above the engine room door are the main 120-volt AC and 24-volt electrical switch/gage distribution panel. Below this is the engine room door stooping below the cockpit sole where headroom is 4' 5" to the port side, outboard of the cockpit where headroom is 6' 5". The removable sole panels are topped with black rubber Lonseal. Three 24V lights and one 110V light illuminate the mechanical space and an extraction fan helps cool and remove and vapors. Besides mechanical and electrical components, one will find the central vacuum cleaner and coat hooks mounted on the forward bulkhead. A solid walnut louvered/raised panel door at the aft end of the passageway provides privacy for the master stateroom. To starboard and forward, beneath the side deck are two hanging lockers. A steel combination lock safe is built into the aft hanging locker. Further aft is a cabinet with two deep shelves. The double berth measuring 56" wide by 78" long is on centerline and aft with a custom Temperpedic mattress. Storage below the bunk consists of two top opening bins aft, a large cabinet access through louvered double doors, and eight drawers of varying sizes. Two bookshelves are at the head of the berth with a 110V GFI plug on the starboard side. A multi Nav display and stateroom air conditioning control are flush mounted to port of the berth. Two stereo speakers are flush mounted in the white laminate overhead. A walnut-trimmed, oval mirror is mounted on the forward bulkhead. The ensuite head is to port with stall shower forward. The ensuite aft head has a solid walnut raised panel/louvered door provides privacy. As with the forward head finish in this compartment is white laminate with varnished walnut trim. The lavac head and separate shower stall are forward. A Scandvik shower on a 4' hose and single lever mixer valve allow for showering/rinsing. A shower curtain divides this area from the rest of the space. A fiberglass shower pan with white plastic starboard grating collect shower water to improve drainage of this shower stall. A green marble counter tops two storage cabinets and two drawers. A Scandvik stainless steel sink sits aft in this counter. A fresh water foot pump and hot/cold Scandvik faucet supply water to the sink. This sink and the shower stall drain to the aft sump box located in the Engineroom. Two overhead dome lights and a bar light over the mirror illuminate this space at night. 110V GFI outlet and cabin fan power and cool this space. MITERNE is a warm comfortable a well thought out living space.

Deck Layout
The deck layout is a textbook example of how to make a deck efficient, safe and beautiful all at the same time. Everything required to sail has been considered and provided. A heavy-duty cockpit dodger with removable side panels provides full cockpit enclosure and shelter for the center cock pit. Safe non-skid wide side decks with well-placed stainless-steel hand rails provide safety for working on deck. This yacht started life with the highest quality hardware and rigging available at the time. MITERNE is cutter rigged. She is properly set up with rigging and sail handling systems appropriate for shorthanded sailing of a cruising vessel of this size. Central to this is the hydraulic-in mast mainsail furling which is operated from the cockpit. There is an in/out/off toggle switch on the steering pedestal and a pushbutton on the port cockpit coaming to activate the hydraulic furling motor. The mainsail outhaul is led aft through a rope clutch to a self-tailing winch to starboard of the companionway. This line can be led to the port primary winch and effectively set the mainsail by "pushbutton." The Hood mainsail has five full length vertical battens, providing positive roach and minimizing in-mast creasing. A Navtec hydraulic vang and backstay, with cockpit pump/control valve allow fine tuning of the mainsail and rig tension. Primary winches are massive Lewmar 66 self-tailing hydraulic winches with a slow and fast speed. The staysail is hanked on and hoisted and lowered from the mast. A sturdy proven Harken furler is at the stem for the primary 150% genoa, Not the least of her exterior virtues is the ease with which her bright appearance can be maintained. Folding mast steps allow for ease in inspection of aloft. Two large aft lazarette provide ample area for stowing diving gear and cruising boat kit. Seawater washdowns on foredeck and transom is very handy.
