The Oyster ’55, launched in 1988 as a ’53, but soon after her first owners added a swim transom making her unique for her age group. This cutter rigged sloop is an exceptional long distance blue water cruiser, set up for short handed sailing. She is an excellent cruising vessel for two but also makes a great family/friends boat sleeping 8 in 4 cabins. All will agree that this model has withstood the test of time and is regarded by many as one of the best cruising yachts around.

This Oyster has navigated all the worlds major oceans and has proven herself in countless ways. She has a dash of notoriety as she was owned at incept by Richard Matthews the founder of Oyster yachts and with her second owner she won the Sydney to Hobart in her cruising class!

The layout of this 55 is hard to beat sporting one the most open and airy salon spaces of any yacht I’ve ever seen. The salon features ample natural light and excellent ventilation with deck prisms, opening ports, hatches and signature Oyster forward opening windows in the main salon. The salon features a large curve-around sofa with storage underneath, a quality patterned teak table that folds out to seat 10 and an aft facing nav station (handy as it faces the cockpit), a smaller settee with a beautifully crafted slide-out teak bar forward. The owners queen island walk around stateroom space flows gracefully in a continuous loop through the aft and features an en-suite head with a large stall shower, 2 hatches, spacious sink and louvered storage areas.  The queen berth has updated foam mattresses and is an excellent living space for two to share. It sports a hanging locker, lots of ventilation with five opening ports, louvered shelving and deep drawer areas, even an oversized chart drawer.

Aft stateroom flows through to the galley with large double stainless sinks facing forward, new chrome fixture with spray nozzle, plenty of food and utility storage, two deep refrigerator boxes and a three burner gimbaled stove and microwave oven. The engine at midship has acesss panels on all four sides. Four cabins overall, the owners stateroom, the V- berth, and two stacked twins, one with a clothes washer, and each with closet and storage, for kids, crew or gear. Two full sized heads, each with stall showers one wiht seat, each with large louvered storage cabinents, One of the last owners was a man of 6’3” who was very pleased with the headroom. The floor plan flows exceptionally well and offers clever storage in every cabin.

The 5’ 6”  shoal keel is worth its weight in gold when cruising the Bahamas and Caribbean. Paired with the swim transom addition by the first owner, and the heavy duty Whitall davits and generator this yacht really has it all for cruising. Large capacity fuel and water tanks, fuel transfer filter, tank tender, safe roomy center cockpit, wide side decks, two dedicated showers. Electricity has been converted for cruising and accepts 2x 30 amp 110 or 230 UK in. Power can be converted from 110 to 220 or the inverse. So, you can cruise just about anywhere.

The last owner sailed her from Spain through the Med, the Canaries, Morocco, Cape Verde Islands, across the Atlantic to Brazil, Amazon, Caribbean & Bahamas…and had an exceptional voyage. She is for sale in Marathon FL please call for details of her present location. Its time for Xiuma to find her new owner, she is ready for new adventures. She is a classy boat, a thoroughbred, a passionate person’s boat. She has full stock of spare parts, a full set of tools  and a full set of custom linens, cooking pans, down pilows, charts, cruising guides, even a few spare bottles of good tequila…Get her now so you can do all you want to do and be ready to go this winter. She brings a life of adventure to her new owner.
