SERENA is a nice example of the simplicity and craftsmanship that Tom Morris was known for in his early boats. The Morris Linda 28 was designed by Chuck Paine to be a fast and seakindly small cruising boat. She is set up for easy day sailing or coastal cruising but is sturdy and reliable for extended voyaging. This boat has had consistent care and light summer use in Maine. Easily seen in indoor storage at Hinckley Yacht Service in Southwest Harbor, Maine.

CONSTRUCTION:

Hull:

Morris constructed solid fiberglass hand laminated hull using Reichold Hydrex Vinylester resin and e-glass laminate.

• Modified full keel with cutaway forward section
• External lead ballast
• Rudder - stainless steel stock and frame, hung off the aft end of the keel
• White hull with dark green boot stripe and cove stripe
• Red bottom paint

Deck:

Fiberglass cored with balsa with Vinylester resin. The deck is laid over an inward turning flange of the hull. The joint is sealed and through bolted with stainless steel bolts on 4" center

• White gelcoat decks with tan painted on nonskid
• Teak, eyebrows, dorade box, toe rails, companionway cover and drop boards and trunk cabin handrails
• Bomar opening foredeck hatch (can be hinged to open forward or aft)
• (7) bronze opening portlights
• Stainless steel bow rail, stern rail and double lifelines with gates port and starboard
• Custom stainless bow fitting with anchor roller and dockline fairleads
• Bronze Herreshoff style bow and stern cleats
• Bronze solar vent over head

COCKPIT:

The cockpit is thoughtfully designed with high, tapered coamings comfortable for leaning against.

• The teak tiller folds up when not in use to open up the cockpit.

• Dark green dodger with stainless steel handles on aft edge

ACCOMMODATIONS:

SERENA has a light, open interior finished off in Herreshoff style with teak trim accenting white bulkheads and overhead. The cushions are an attractive green Ultrasuede fabric. The cabin sole is oiled teak. A large overhead opening hatch combined with opening portlights and a dorade vent provide abundant natural light.

There is a quarterberth to port of the companionway and galley to starboard. Forward of the galley and quarterberth are two settee berths in the main salon. The forward cabin is separated from the main salon by an enclosed head to port and a hanging wet locker opposite to starboard.

GALLEY:

The small but functional galley to starboard has Formica countertops with teak fiddles and trim

• Storage in lockers outboard of counter and drawers below sink

MAIN CABIN:

• Full length settees port and starboard

• Shelves outboard of settees and additional storage in locker at forward end of starboard settee

FORWARD CABIN:

• Full width v-berth with filler piece
• Storage below berth and in hanging locker opposite head
• Access to forepeak chain locker
• Teak ceiling boards along hull sides
• Dome lights mounted under side decks over berth

HEAD:

• Manual head with Y valve on discharge
• Removable teak sole
• Oval stainless steel sink with manual stainless steel faucet
• Storage in locker out board and under sink
• Opening portlight and overhead solar vent provide natural light and ventilation

MECHANICAL:

• Volvo 2002 2 cylinder diesel engine with fresh water cooling
• Engine gauges in cockpit with tach, hour meter, coolant temperature, oil pressure and voltage
• 245 hours on hour meter (October, 2024)
