No two ways about it: this KP46 is the real deal. Since purchasing her in 1998, her owners have put her modified full keel with skeg rudder to the test in bad weather and she came through with flying colors every time. "It is in these situations that the KP46 really takes care of you," they write. "In the cruising community, some stay put; others keep moving. The KP46 allowed us to sail when many stayed put." Cutter-rigged, HAVANA GOODTIME is the very embodiment of safe sail handling. Her mainsail can literally be raised entirely by hand with the aid of a smooth Dutch-made Freidricksen ball slide system and reefing is an easy 30-second job. In winds under 20-22 knots, a full mainsail and 130 % Yankee-cut genoa gives good speed and a comfortable ride. Put in one reef and use the staysail and the boat can go to 30-33 knots. Above that, double-reef the main and fly the staysail and the boat is still manageable to 40 knots. HAVANA GOODTIME's construction is robust, even surviving a brush with Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Below the waterline, her hull is coated with 5 layers of West System epoxy with a moisture barrier additive. Her reliable fresh water cooled VW Pathfinder 85hp diesel works in concert with a Hurth transmission turning a 22-inch MaxPro feathering prop. HAVANA GOODTIME will convey with a comprehensive inventory, including an Entec 5.5 Kw generator, a Village Marine watermaker, two solar panels, a wind generator, a Johnson 15-hp outboard engine, and a Caribe 9-foot RIB, purchased new in 2012.
