The J/40 was designed by Rod Johnstone to be fast, elegant, and rugged. It's widely regarded as one of the best offshore-capable performance cruisers. The J/40 was "Boat of the Year" in 1985 and again in 1986. The larger mainsail and smaller headsails are more easily managed for short-handed sailing. The deck arrangement of the J/40 is near perfect for a cruising boat. The partially balanced large spade rudder provides excellent steering control in all conditions. The J/40 sail area displacement ratio of 18.3 makes her quick and responsive even in light air conditions. The interior was designed for two cruising couples The main saloon is large, open, and comfortable. KINSALE has newer Yanmar diesel engine, Quantum Sails, electronics and Dodger. Her owner has not been able to use the vessel. KINSALE is a solid J40 requiring some cosmetic love and therefore is priced well below market value for a quick sale.

Accommodations
The J40 can accommodate up to six people in two separate cabins and the main saloon. The forward cabin has a V-berth with storage underneath, a hanging locker and a private head with shower. The aft cabin has a double berth, a hanging locker and access to the second head with shower. The main saloon has a U-shaped dinette to port that can convert into a double berth, and a settee to starboard that can serve as a single berth. The navigation station is located aft of the settee, facing outboard. The galley is located aft of the dinette, along the port side. It has a three-burner stove with oven, a double sink, a top-loading refrigerator and ample storage space. The interior of the J40 is spacious, bright and well-ventilated. It has large windows, hatches and ports that provide natural light and fresh air. The woodwork is made of teak, which adds warmth and elegance to the cabin. The upholstery is durable and comfortable, and the cushions are thick and firm. The layout is practical and functional, with plenty of headroom, storage space and access to the engine and systems. The deck of the J40 is designed for safety and convenience. It has wide side decks, molded nonskid surfaces, stainless steel handrails and lifelines, and recessed hatches. Brokers Comments
KINSALE represents an excellent opportunity for some one willing to add some sweat equity in the interior to bring her back to her former glory. (see photos)  She has been on the hard for the last two seasons due to the owners health issues. Her hull, decks and rudder are solid with very low moisture reading. Her Quantum sails are in almost new condition. The Yanmar diesel was recently replaced as well as some of her electronics. She has a new dodger. She is a distress sale but well worth the money.
