Some boats impress at the dock. Others earn your trust at sea.
The Freeport's fully encapsulated keel, skeg-hung rudder, generous ballast ratio, and heavily built fiberglass hull create a boat that feels remarkably secure when conditions deteriorate. Even in 30 knots of wind and 10-foot seas, she tracks straight and true with minimal helm input. The boat has a natural balance that reduces fatigue and allows you to focus on the voyage rather than constantly managing the boat.
One of the design's greatest strengths is that it delivers offshore capability without sacrificing comfort. The enclosed cockpit, diesel heater, and heavy-duty sail inventory reflect her Alaska cruising history and make her equally suited for coastal cruising, extended voyages, or life aboard.
Below deck, the layout is practical, spacious, and exceptionally comfortable. The amidships Pullman berth is positioned close to the boat's center of motion, creating a surprisingly restful place to sleep whether at anchor or underway. The forward head provides a generous shower and ample room rarely found in a vessel of this size. The interior feels more like a much larger cruising yacht than a 36-foot boat.
The electrical system has been transformed by a large lithium iron phosphate battery bank and solar charging system. One of the most pleasant surprises of this upgrade has been the freedom it provides. Whether at anchor or underway, you will enjoy essentially the same conveniences available at the dock. The refrigerator and freezer remain running continuously, the induction cooktop and microwave are available when needed, and hot showers are always possible thanks to the electric water heater. With 35.84 kWh of lithium battery capacity and abundant solar generation, the boat offers a level of independence that dramatically changes life on the water.
For sailors interested in offshore capability, the Freeport already incorporates many of the characteristics sought in dedicated passage-makers. The mast is positioned well aft, making conversion to an effective cutter rig straightforward should a future owner desire a staysail. Combined with the strong hull construction, protected rudder, and forgiving sailing characteristics, this design remains one of the most practical and confidence-inspiring cruising boats ever built in its size range.
This is not simply a boat with impressive specifications. It is a boat that has proven itself over thousands of miles. It is a boat that takes care of its crew when conditions become challenging. And it is a boat that makes cruising comfortable enough that you find yourself staying out longer and exploring farther than you originally planned.
For anyone looking for a capable cruiser, comfortable liveaboard, or a vessel with genuine offshore potential, this Islander Freeport 36 deserves serious consideration.
Enter the Large, comfortable cockpit from the gated side-deck or the drop-door transom ladder. All sail controls are led to the cockpit, so you stay snug unless you want to lounge on deck. A wide companionway leads to the Salon/Galley space that is bright and airy, due to the pilothouse configuration and multiple opening hatches. LED lighting provides warm accent and task lighting in the evenings. The galley is to port, Nav Station to Stbd. Moving forward, the Dinette (that converts to a double) has a folding table that can expand meal seating to accommodate Six adults and more if there are kids. Next forward is the Pullman Berth across from ample storage including Hanging Locker. The Bow area is a very large head with shower and sump.

The Seller has a new new (to him) boat and does not want to be a two boat owner. he comments:
"After owning and sailing this Islander Freeport 36 for years, I have come to appreciate just how brilliant Robert Perry's design truly is. Having recently purchased a Taswell built specifically for offshore passages, I can honestly say that if the weather turned rough tomorrow, I would still choose the Freeport. Few cruising boats of this size offer the same combination of comfort, stability, ease of handling, and confidence underway."
The new boat is too big for his Santa Barbara Slip, so the slip is available for transfer with "Adytum" at additional cost. This would make for an excellent Santa Barbara getaway situation, giving yoy access to the Channel Islands and beyond. Call for details.
