The Irwin 52 was one of the most popular 50+ foot sailboats ever built. They made both a 52 and 54-foot version. I actually owned "Hull Number One" of the Irwin 54, which was the second generation of boats in 1987. It was actually delivered to my wife and me on the day we were married 1987. It's a good large, cruising boat with good sailing characteristics. So many of those early cruising boats were just slower than hell, didn't have enough sail or ample performance, and were especially heavy. Ted Irwin was a racing sailor who always put a reasonable amount of performance in his boats, and the Irwin 52 / 54 was very much that kind of a boat. A lot of openness, big open skylights, and a lot of area inside.
They came in both a sloop and a ketch version. It was a mid-cockpit boat, which gave you a huge big aft-cabin with pedestal berth, and in most cases a bathtub back there, a large storage area, good room. Just a very nice sailing boat. I believe they made over 200 of the Irwin 52's as I recall and then they retooled it to make a new boat as I said that was a modified 52, and the Irwin 54 came out of the same mold - they just blocked the mold in the rear to make the 54 foot boat a 52 foot boat.
So if some of you want a boat that has good accommodations, good sailing performance, good sense of openness, good value and worth this boat. My wife and I lived aboard it for a good number years and just thoroughly enjoyed it.
This particular Irwin 52 includes extensive canvas and Eisenglass covering the entire cockpit, a large, spacious main salon, down galley on starboard, and portside nav station. The galley includes three-burner stove, oven, stand-up fridge, microwave, double stainless sink, lots of counter space.The aft cabin suite features a pedestal berth, a private head with shower and tub, and lots of storage.
The guest suite includes a pedestal berth; the guest head includes a shower. In the port side passageway from salon to after cabin, the seller has converted the additional storage into a workshop.
The vessel is powered by the 135HP upgraded Perkins diesel option.
The vessel includes an 11-foot 5-inch West Marine inflatable dinghy, model RIB-350 Double Floor Hypalon, with capacity for up to 24HP, four adults, up to 1320 lbs. This inflatable dinghy includes an outboard motor, canvas cover and hangs from a stern davit.
The Irwin 52 model line was designed by Ted Irwin and produced by Irwin Yachts between 1976 and 1987.
