Additional Information

The Hans Christian Christina 40 features a spacious layout with two private staterooms and a large, open galley/salon layout.

Starting forward is the wet head with a manual head and hand held shower.  A large overhead hatch provides plenty of light and ventilation.  There are storage lockers and access to the anchor locker here as well.

Next aft is the primary stateroom with a double berth to port with drawers underneath and hanging lockers to starboard.  This stateroom is well appointed with brass reading lamps, ship's clock, a fan and lots of storage options.

The main salon has a large U-shaped dinette to starboard and a settee to port.  There is storage behind the seats and out board on shelves and in lockers.  Ventilation is provided by two Dorado vents and tow large overhead hatches.  Natural light is provided by 6 port lights.  There are fans, a ship's clocked barometer, oil lamp, Cybernet cassette player and accent lighting.

The galley is aft to port featuring a top and side loading fridge with a Sea Frost cold plate.  There is an engine driven compressor for keeping the cold plates chill when off shore power.  A three burner Force 10 stove/oven, Princess microwave and two basin stainless sink complete the galley.  There is plenty of storage in drawers and lockers.  The Yanmar diesel engine is located under the sink with access on four sides.

Opposite the galley is the nav station with a large plotting desk, drawers, swing-out nav seat and master electrical panel.

Aft of the nav station is the aft stateroom featuring a large double berth and hanging locker.

The companionway ladder hinges up and latches to the ceiling to grant access to the Northern Lights generator which is located on centerline.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1987 Hans Christian Christina 40 is a classic cruising sailboat known for its traditional design and solid construction. Here are some of the key pros and cons of this model:

Pros

Sturdy Construction: Built with a heavy displacement and solid fiberglass hull, offering durability and excellent offshore capabilities.

Traditional Aesthetics: Timeless, classic lines with a beautiful full keel design that appeals to sailors who appreciate traditional craftsmanship.

Comfortable Interior: Spacious and well-laid-out interior with quality woodwork, providing a cozy and practical living space for extended cruising.

Seaworthy Design: Known for excellent stability and handling in rough seas, making it a reliable choice for long-distance voyaging.

Easy to Maintain: Simpler systems and traditional rigging reduce complexity and maintenance costs compared to more modern designs.

Cons

Heavier Displacement: The robust build results in a heavier boat, which may lead to slower speeds, especially in light wind conditions.

Older Systems: Being a 1987 model, some onboard systems and equipment may be outdated and could require upgrades or repairs.

Limited Modern Amenities: Lacks some of the conveniences and advanced technology found on newer cruising sailboats.

Full Keel Handling: While great for stability, the full keel design can reduce maneuverability and make docking or tight turns more challenging.
