SPRINGBOK is one of the finest Grand Banks Eastbay 49's built in the early years of production of this extremely popular Downeast express.  SPRINGBOK's knowledgeable owners had a great deal of input in original design of the Eastbay 49' and the detailed specifications of SPRINGBOK's build order, including several semi-custom, well thought out additions.  The sellers spent several months working with both Grand Banks and C. Raymond Hunt and Associates.  SPRINGBOK has been updated with the extended helm deck windows both port and starboard that were added to the later model Eastbay 49's.  She was repowered with new Caterpillar C-12 705hp engines in 2004 when the issues with the original Caterpillar 3196 engines became extremely problematic.  SPRINGBOK's owners paid dearly for this upgrade which as of this date continues to be the current standard engine used in the new Eastbay 49's since the C-12's introduction in 2003.  This upgrade provides a great deal of confidence in SPRINGBOK's power compared to any other Eastbay 49s of this vintage.  SPRINGBOK's Caterpillar C-12s have also had light use with approximately 650 total hours since their installation as of 9/20/2012.

SPRINGBOK is now for sale due to the sellers recent purchase of a new 2013 model Grand Banks Eastbay 50 SX.  The sellers have had such a fantastic experience with their Eastbay 49 that they have partnered with Grand Banks and Hunt again to begin a new venture in this fantastic new model.  They will be very involved in the introduction of this new Eastbay just as they were with the Eastbay 49.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1999 Grand Banks 49 Eastbay HX is a classic trawler-style motor yacht known for its blend of traditional craftsmanship and reliable performance. Here are some pros and cons to consider:

Pros

Classic Design and Build Quality: The Grand Banks 49 Eastbay HX features a timeless semi-displacement hull and high-quality teak joinery, offering both aesthetic appeal and durability.

Spacious and Comfortable Layout: With ample salon space, a full galley, and comfortable staterooms, it’s well-suited for extended cruising and liveaboard comfort.

Fuel Efficiency and Range: The semi-displacement hull and efficient twin diesel engines provide good fuel economy for a vessel of its size, allowing for long-range cruising.

Excellent Seaworthiness: Known for a smooth and stable ride, it handles well in various sea conditions, making it a reliable choice for coastal and offshore passages.

Good Visibility: The raised pilothouse design offers excellent visibility for safe navigation.

Well-Equipped Helm: The helm station is ergonomically designed with easy access to controls and navigation equipment.

Cons

Age-Related Maintenance: As a 1999 model, potential buyers should be prepared for maintenance and possible upgrades to systems such as electronics, plumbing, and engines.

Speed Limitations: The semi-displacement hull prioritizes comfort and efficiency over speed, so cruising speeds are moderate compared to planing hull boats.

Interior Layout: While spacious, some may find the interior décor and layout somewhat dated compared to more modern yachts.

Limited Headroom in Some Areas: Certain parts of the boat, like the lower cabins, may have lower headroom, which could be a consideration for taller individuals.

Accessibility: Access to engine rooms and some mechanical components might be tighter compared to newer designs, potentially complicating maintenance.
