If you are interested in a Grand Banks 42, this is one of the nicest 42's with low hours, less than 80 hrs a year. The owners always put the vessel in a high quality yard and she has always been stored inside. The exterior varnish is near perfect with two fresh coats of varnish as of January 28, 2010. The hull has a fresh coat of wax, the teak decks are beautiful and there is very little wear and tear on the boat.

Drift has made one round trip from Maine to Florida and back to Newport, RI. Otherwise, the vessel was in the Abacos during the winter and stored inside during the summers.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 2001 Grand Banks 42 Classic is a well-regarded trawler known for its timeless design and solid construction. Here are some of the pros and cons to consider:

Pros

Classic Styling: The 42 Classic features the traditional Grand Banks look with graceful lines and a spacious flybridge, appealing to those who appreciate classic yacht aesthetics.

Quality Build: Known for sturdy fiberglass construction and high-quality finishes, ensuring durability and longevity.

Spacious Interior: Offers comfortable accommodations with a well-laid-out salon, galley, and staterooms, making it suitable for extended cruising.

Seaworthiness: Designed for offshore cruising with a full displacement hull, providing a smooth and stable ride even in rough conditions.

Fuel Efficiency: Equipped with efficient engines that allow for economical long-distance cruising.

Ample Storage: Plenty of storage space both below and on deck for gear and provisions.

Good Visibility: Elevated pilothouse and flybridge provide excellent visibility for navigation and maneuvering.

Cons

Age: Being a 2001 model, some systems and equipment may be outdated or require upgrading.

Speed: The full displacement hull trades speed for comfort and fuel efficiency, so it’s not a fast boat.

Maintenance: Older vessels generally require more maintenance and upkeep, particularly with mechanical systems and wood trim.

Limited Modern Amenities: Lacks some of the latest technology and conveniences found in newer boats.

Size Constraints: While spacious for its class, the 42-foot length may feel limited for larger families or groups.
