The Grand Banks 32 is a classic trawler cruiser that has withstood the test of time. In production for over 3 decades 861 of these sought after boats were produced. The classic design incorporates teak joinery and bright work throughout and the seaman-like layout features proper walk around decks with high gunwales topped with a tall, secure handrail. Powered by a 6-cylinder naturally aspirated 120 hp Ford Lehman diesel engine, she will cruise at 8 knots burning around 2.5 gallons of fuel per hour. The current owner has upgraded many of the ship?s systems including the generator, vacu-flush head, hot water heater, batteries and the Achilles heal of the Grand Banks, the fuel. With her solid bones, Renaissance is awaiting her next owner to spruce her up and set a course for her next adventure.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1979 Grand Banks 32 Sedan is a classic trawler-style yacht known for its timeless design and solid craftsmanship. Here are some pros and cons to consider:

Pros

Classic Aesthetic: The Grand Banks 32 Sedan features elegant lines and a traditional teak interior, appealing to owners who appreciate vintage style and craftsmanship.

Solid Construction: Built with a robust fiberglass hull and quality materials, it offers durability and seaworthiness.

Spacious Interior: For a 32-foot boat, it provides a surprisingly roomy salon and comfortable accommodations, including a well-appointed galley and sleeping quarters.

Stable and Comfortable Ride: The displacement hull design ensures a smooth and stable ride, making it suitable for coastal cruising and longer passages.

Reliable Diesel Engine: Typically equipped with a dependable Perkins or Lehman diesel engine, known for longevity and ease of maintenance.

Good Visibility: The raised pilothouse and large windows provide excellent all-around visibility for safe navigation.

Classic Trawler Appeal: Its moderate speed and fuel efficiency make it ideal for leisurely cruising rather than high-speed boating.

Cons

Age-Related Maintenance: Being a vessel from 1979, it may require ongoing upkeep, including potential teak refinishing, engine servicing, and updating of electrical or plumbing systems.

Limited Speed: With a displacement hull and moderate horsepower, it is not designed for fast travel and cruises at relatively low speeds (typically around 7-8 knots).

Smaller Cockpit: The cockpit space is somewhat limited compared to newer models, which may impact outdoor socializing or fishing activities.

Fuel Consumption: While efficient for a trawler, the diesel engine still consumes more fuel than smaller recreational boats, particularly at cruising speeds.

Older Electronics: Original navigation and onboard systems may be outdated and often require modernization to meet current standards.

Weight and Draft: The boat is relatively heavy and has a deeper draft, which may limit access to shallow waters or certain harbors.
