The Freedom 30 was designed by Gary Mull, built by TPI and is a cinch to sail. On a Freedom, it is possible to sail very well without large crews or complication. That's what Freedoms are all about. Mull was a West Coast sailor/racer who designed very fast boats that were regulars at the winner's podium. The F-30 was a follow up to the F-36. Similar resemblance, with a free-standing spar, cockpit centered controls and a jib tamed with a camber spar foot. With the close sheeting angle for the jib, the F-30 is surprisingly close-winded and so easy to tack, that going to weather is no chore. Without shrouds getting in the way, the main can be properly trimmed for downwind work. The spars have performed very well both during inshore competition and during offshore passages. A cockpit designed for sailing and an interior designed for cruising. The F-30 gets good stability in a breeze. The bend in the carbon fiber spar plays a large part of depowering the rig when it really blows and the less weight aloft also helps. Owners don't consider reefing in winds less than 20 knots. Her interior gets high marks with lots of beautiful wood. Mull created a workable, realistic space. There are double berth cabins fore and aft. There are port and starboard settees. Ventilation is adequate for the head and cabins with 9 opening ports and 3 hatches. Headroom is 6'3". She sleeps 5 in two cabins. In addition to being easy to cruise and a great fun to sail, the boats are well-built. The cockpit is oversized, comfortable, uncluttered. She has turn on a dime steering and effortless short-tacking. The owner is selling because he bought a larger boat for Lake Superior.
