FAIR WEATHER MARINER 39
ONE OF BOB PERRY'S COOLEST DESIGNS
Very rarely does a Tawian Built Fairweather Mariner come to market because the people that own them pretty much keep them. Sometimes refered to as "the little sister to the Passport 40", "Sumday" has the distinct advantage of being a two owner boat. The first owners had her built to order, the second and current owners have had her almost 20 years. The current owners use her for summer cruising in the Salish Sea and BC coast.
Built by Ta Shing, the build quality is top shelf. Fiberglass work is suprub, mechanical and electrical systems are done very well and the interior is old growth Teak.... nobody did it better than the Tawainese.
"Sumday" has a deck salon interior layout with the galley and nav station up and the lower salon with the table, settees and accomodations down. Neat thing about this layout is when you are in the galley you look down at the dock. When you're seated below, people on the dock cannot see you. Side cabin windows are of good size and made of laminated glass. Sleeping arangements are a very generous V berth forward and a quarter berth aft to stbd, lots of room for one, cozy for two. The stbd side settee slides out in a very cleaver design that creates a double bed when you have unexpected guests or you just like cruising with 5 or 6 people.
This boat should perform well compared to a Passport 40, a little smaller, a little lighter and less wetted surface. She should be a little faster considering equal quality sails and sailing abilities of the crews. The rig is aluminum two-spreader, keel stepped with traditional on boom reefing. Roller reefing genoa provides ease of changing up or down sail size according to wind strengths.
The Perkins Prima 50 is a workhorse of an engine, motors the boat at 7 kts and has relatively low hours.
All in all, this boat is a great choice for a single hander, couple or family with a child for a coastal cruising or ocean sailing.
