1982 Wings 33' Ketch (Custom Built)
ICW and Lake Okeechobee friendly Cat Ketch rig, 46' air draft, 4' water draft!
Universal diesel engine that runs like a top.
Large V-Berth and roomy salon.
The perfect little cruising sailboat for single handing or a couple.
This is a custom-built sailboat, based on the Wings 33 design, built in Saint Petersburg, FL by the Fiberglass Fabrica company in 1982. The current owners have enjoyed sailing her all over the FL waterways, including across Lake Okeechobee. With the cat ketch rig, she has 2 masts that air drafts only 46’ so can go under most fixed bridges along the ICW and with a water draft of only 4’, she is also island cruising friendly. The main and mizen sails are just about the same size and very easy to sail. The interior is typical 80’s style small cruising sailboat simple yet has several really comfortable features such as: solid folding doors that close off the V-Berth to create an actual separate cabin from the salon for when guests may be aboard. There are two very large comfortable settees on either side of the salon so two people can be very comfortable during rest/down time, one even folds out to a double berth. The two over settee bunks fold down to be comfortable back rests for each of the settees. The size of the wet head is actually quite large for this size vessel. The Universal motor, although it did not come with an hour meter, seems to have been very well maintained throughout its life and runs like a champ! Comes with a newer 9’ dinghy that has a quick little silent electric motor! Overall the boat does need a bit more cosmetic TLC and even though she has a few little bumps and bruises, this will make a great, affordable cruising vessel for her new owners.

Versatile Sailing Options: As a ketch, the sail plan allows for a balanced and easy handling experience. This is especially beneficial for short-handed sailing, as the smaller mizzen sail can help with stability and control.
Spacious Interior: The 33-foot length offers a well-designed interior layout, often featuring a comfortable salon, galley, and sleeping quarters, ideal for extended cruising or weekend getaways.
Classic Aesthetic: The design of the Custom Wings ketch embodies a timeless nautical look that appeals to traditional yacht enthusiasts. It often features a beautiful wood finish and classic lines.
Good Storage: These vessels typically offer ample storage space for gear and provisions, making them suitable for longer voyages.
Cost-Effective: Being a vintage model, it often comes at a lower price point compared to newer yachts, providing excellent value for those seeking a solid cruising boat.
Cons
Maintenance Needs: Older boats, including the 1982 Custom Wings 33, may require more maintenance compared to newer models. Buyers should be prepared for potential upkeep and repairs.
Older Technology: Depending on previous ownership, certain systems may be outdated, lacking modern conveniences and efficiencies, which could lead to an upgrade investment.
Space Limitations: While the interior is spacious for its size, it may still feel cramped compared to larger yachts, especially for larger crews or families.
Performance Limitations: Ketch sailboats can be slower than sloop-rigged vessels, especially in light winds. While they provide great handling, they may not be the fastest option available.
Availability of Parts: Since the Custom Wings 33 is a niche model, sourcing specific parts or accessories may be more challenging than for more common brands.
Varying Condition: As with any older vessel, the condition of available models can vary widely, and prospective buyers should conduct thorough inspections to assess the boat's reliability and seaworthiness.
