Catalina introduced their legendary 470 in 1998 at the Miami International Boat Show. The yacht arrived at the show on a yacht transport and was shown on that trailer. It was an instant success and several were sold at that show.  The 470 was built exclusively at Catalina's Florida plant in Largo. The Catalina 470 construction details included several of the features later utilized on the Catalina 5 Series yachts that were introduced in 2009. The 470 was the second Catalina model to utilize twin helms. It was an evolutionary yacht.
The Catalina 470 is a large 47' yacht with a powerful sail plan and luxurious interior.
Windsong is a fine example of the Catalina 470. She is well outfitted for cruising and liveaboard. The interior is spacious with two large staterooms with en-suite heads and dedicated showers. The galley has a proper sea galley and the main salon features two captains chairs. Other items include:
  • Stainless steel davit/solar panel arch
  • Bimini/dodger with full enclosure
  • Raymarine suite of navigation instruments
  • Fischer Panda Mini 8 generator
  • Three newer 8 D batteries
  • ICOM Single Side Band radio
  • Winslow 6 person liferaft
  • Intra Coastal Waterway friendly with shoal draft and mast height clearance of 63'6"
  • 800 watts of solar panels on stainless steel arch
  • In mast mainsail furling and 140% roller furling genoa
  • Newer Raritan Marine Elegance Electric heads
  • Splendid washer and dryer 2100 X-C
Windsong is a capable off shore cruising yacht. If you are searching for a well equipped, well maintained yacht Windsong should be on your short list.

Catalina Yachts are uniquely American with a strong focus on performance, safety at sea and enduring value. They are overbuilt and underpriced and that is why Catalina Yachts are the Sailor's Choice.

Generous Tankage: Large fuel and water tanks support longer passages and reduce the need for frequent resupply.

Ample Storage: Plenty of storage compartments throughout the boat add convenience for storing gear and provisions.

Cons

Weight: The boat’s moderate to heavy displacement can result in slower acceleration and may affect light-wind performance.

Limited Cockpit Space: While comfortable, the cockpit may feel a bit cramped for larger crews or when hosting guests.

Outdated Interior Styling: The interior design and finishes may appear dated compared to more modern yachts, potentially requiring updates.

Sail Handling: Some sailors find the standard rigging setup requires adjustments or upgrades for optimal sail control.

Price and Availability: As a model from 2000, well-maintained examples can be limited in availability and may command higher prices in the used market.
