This 1994 Catalina 42 MKI "Alouette" has been very well maintained by her current owner and has been in the family for over a decade. She has recent canvas and has all the creature comforts that make her a perfect sailing and cruising platform for the Chesapeake Bay and beyond.
A huge hit ever since her introduction in 1988, the Catalina 42 was produced for 23 years, With over 1000 hulls launched, there is an active 42 Owner's Association, which we quote below (we encourage you to check out their website, as there's a wealth of useful information available there):
"The Catalina 42 Mark I was introduced in 1988 and evolved until 1995 when it was replaced by the Mark II Model. The hull was adapted from an earlier racing hull designed by Nelson Merik. Catalina Yachts modified the racing hull with a new cabin top, interior, and rig in order to make it a comfortable coastal cruising boat which two people could easily handle. The spacious design is comfortable for a gang of crew on a week-long cruise. With a race-bred hull and a substantial rig, the boat is moderately stiff and capable of weather legs approaching 8 knots, and downwind action which can push the knot meter past 15 knots. But as the sun sets over your favorite hideaway anchorage, there is little argument that the Catalina 42 is hard to match for her comfort."
"Alouette" was launched in 1994, a year prior to the final year of Mk I production, and as such represents the evolutionary summit of that design; she is the shoal keel, three-stateroom version. Only two owners, the boat was cared for by knowledgeable yachtsmen and very well equipped. In all that time, she was lightly used, with only hours on her engine and to top it off, lies in a slip in Zahnisers Marina in Solomons MD.
