2004 Catalina 34 MKII "Libertas"
Libertas is a well-equipped 2004 Catalina 34 MKII that combines the sailing performance, comfortable accommodations, and practical layout that have made the Catalina 34 one of the most popular cruising sailboats ever built. Offered for sale by Grandpappy Point Marina, she has spent her life on fresh water and presents an excellent opportunity for a sailor looking for a capable cruiser without stepping up to a larger, more demanding yacht.
The Catalina 34 MKII was a significant evolution of the original Catalina 34, with refinements throughout the boat designed to improve comfort, reliability, sail handling, and ease of maintenance. At 34'6" overall with an 11'9" beam, Libertas offers an impressive amount of living space while remaining manageable for a couple or small crew. Her wing keel provides a moderate draft, making her particularly well suited to cruising on inland lakes and coastal waters.
Power is provided by a Universal M35B 30-hp diesel, with approximately 420 hours. The reliable inboard diesel provides economical propulsion when the wind isn't cooperating and makes Libertas equally practical for maneuvering around the marina or extending a cruise when conditions change.
The cockpit is one of the Catalina 34's greatest strengths, offering generous seating, long cockpit benches, a comfortable helm, and excellent access to the walk-through transom. The pedestal steering station includes engine controls and compass, while the folding transom arrangement makes boarding from the dock or water easy. A bimini, sun covers, and connector between the bimini and dodger provide welcome protection from the elements.
Sail handling is straightforward and well suited to cruising. Libertas carries a main, 100% jib, 150% genoa, and cruising spinnaker. The main and genoa were replaced with new Ullman sails in 2022 and have seen very little use; the main features double reef points and a Dutchman flaking system. The roller-furling genoa makes sail handling simple from the cockpit.
The navigation and sailing systems have received significant attention, including new Raymarine instruments installed in 2025, with depth, speed, autopilot, and a repeater at the navigation station. A new PYI three-blade folding Max-Prop was also installed in 2025.
Below deck, the Catalina 34 MKII offers a surprisingly spacious two-cabin, one-head layout. The salon features comfortable seating and a convertible dinette, with warm wood cabinetry and a teak-and-holly sole creating a classic cruising atmosphere. The forward cabin provides a private V-berth, while the roomy aft cabin offers a large double berth and additional storage. The interior upholstery is finished in Ultraleather, and the aft berth includes an inner-spring mattress with custom cover and sheets.
The L-shaped galley is designed for real cruising, with a two-burner stove and oven, microwave, refrigerator, double stainless-steel sink, Corian-style countertops, and generous storage. The enclosed head includes a marine toilet, vanity, and shower.
Comfort aboard is further enhanced by reverse-cycle heating and air conditioning, making Libertas a comfortable place to spend a weekend aboard regardless of the weather. A new Seward hot water heater was installed in 2025, and a new HVAC Micro-Air SoftStart was added in 2026.
Recent upgrades and maintenance include new bottom paint in 2025, new bilge pump and discharge hose in 2026, new Blue Sea dual-shore-power ELCI breaker box/panel/breakers and ProMariner 60-amp galvanic isolator in 2026, Smart Plug shore-power receptacles, new helm cover and mainsail cover in 2026, and a new Lifesling cover in 2025. Numerous additional cruising accessories, dock lines, fenders, engine spares, and maintenance supplies are included.
With her freshwater history, low engine hours, extensive recent upgrades, comfortable two-cabin interior, air conditioning and heat, and excellent sail inventory, Libertas is a particularly attractive Catalina 34 MKII for the sailor looking for a turnkey cruising sailboat. She is ready for weekend getaways, extended cruising, or simply enjoying relaxing days under sail.
Libertas is located at Cedar Mills Marina in Gordonville, Texas. Schedule your showing today!
