Leeloo is a 2009 Caliber 40 LRC SE - 40 foot cutter-rigged bluewater long-range cruiser with low engine hours. This exceptional sailing vessel boasts a proven track record for outstanding seaworthiness with top-tier craftsmanship. It's the perfect choice for seasoned sailors seeking adventure beyond the horizon without compromising livability from features like a spacious cabin, impressive storage capacity for extended journeys, and seakindly motion that makes life aboard much safer and more comfortable in heavy seas.
Whether sitting at anchor or sailing offshore, the Caliber 40 Long Range Cruiser's thoughtful design, rugged construction, and excellent accommodations capably deliver adventure and comfort. The Caliber moves steadily in heavy seas and is very stable (and therefore safe) in rough water due to its hull shape, displacement, high ballast-displacement ratio, and superior construction. A modified fin keel with skeg-hung rudder makes the Caliber 40LRC exceptionally responsive and quick, with outstanding directional stability even through pounding seas. Its cutter rig suits a wide variety of sailing conditions, while its efficient and reliable Yanmar 54HP diesel engine offers effortless motoring.
For the modern bluewater sailor one of the defining traits of a true passagemaker is fuel capacity. The Caliber's integral tankage holds 212 gallons, which extends motoring range many hundreds of miles beyond other boats of its class. The LRC also holds 179 gallons of freshwater to support more crew or more time away from dock. Leeloo boosts this even further with an integral 6 gph water maker to efficiently convert clean seawater to drinkable fresh water.
Leeloo is one of the last few Caliber 40 LRC SEs built , with low engine hours and all the improvements made to the 40 LRC line over time, such as an upgraded Yanmar 4E engine and Caliber Smart Stern Rail with cantilevered bimini and sturdy dinghy davits, as well as many upgrades. Leeloo spent her first five years as a freshwater boat on Lake Champlain. She has had only two careful owners and has been consistently maintained and stored on the hard in the off‑season. She is well equipped for long passages and has cruised eastern Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean, and is now lying at Herrington Harbour North Marina on the Chesapeake Bay.
Whether you're seeking long offshore passages or coastal adventures, Leeloo is well equipped for blue water adventures and ready to go cruising anywhere in the world.

How swiftly a boat sails, how well it handles, and how it weathers the sea are the direct result of its design. As Caliber owners know, a Caliber performs beyond the limits that constrain so many others through the artful combination of seaworthiness, swiftness and durability, paired with exceptional stability and comfort. Caliber’s rugged design is executed with top-tier craftsmanship and materials, not only for seaworthiness and durability but also for the comfort and enjoyment of those onboard. Caliber’s hulls feature moderate displacement, moderate draft and moderate beam—all resulting in a safe, comfortable, offshore performance cruising hull design.
Calibers are built of solid hand-laminated fiberglass with safety features like a Water‑Tight Collision Bulkhead, Water‑Tight Rudder Dam, Integral Strength-Grid System* and Triple‑Support Rudder System*, along with many additional cruising enhancements. The modified fin keel is not only of a one-piece integral construction, but it’s also double-sealed for an added layer against grounding damage, and forces that come to bear on it are well distributed over the hull grid structure. The keel-stepped mast and its support structure are also carefully designed to disperse loads well, maintaining mast strength and durability. The chainplates are through-bolted to bulkheads as well as to the deck with Caliber’s Double-Lock Chainplate System*. The rudder is full-skeg-mounted for protection and tracking.
The Caliber 40 LRC SE’s tankage far exceeds those of similar vessels, greatly increasing freedom to roam and ability to respond to light winds, weather windows or to time the tides and currents. Two separate fuel tanks and a built-in dual fuel polishing system provide an extra margin of dependability in remote locations. As further assurance against trouble, the Caliber 40LRC is equipped with dual tanks and filters for both fuel and water. Should a problem arise in one tank, a simple flip of a lever accesses the other.
The Caliber underbody is configured for long range cruising, but not at the cost of maneuverability or speed. A modified fin keel with skeg-hung rudder makes a Caliber exceptionally responsive and quick, with outstanding directional stability, which enables it to keep a true course, even through pounding seas. Together, these characteristics add up to cruising performance unmatched by a racing fin or full-keel design.

When rough water makes most sailors miserable, Caliber owners can cruise in comfort and with confidence. The hull of a Caliber is hand-crafted lamination—a time-tested construction method that provides layer upon layer of strength against tough offshore conditions—not mass produced from glass liners and glass components. Caliber's trademark design incorporates a Multi-Bulkhead Bonding System* and an Integral Strength-Grid System* for strength and safety. It's the reason why the Caliber 40 LRC feels so solid.
Caliber 40 LRC hulls are built for outstanding resistance to collisions, with extra layers of solid fiberglass reinforcing the hull at potential impact points. In case of damage to the bow or rudder, the Watertight Collision Bulkhead and Rudder Dam are designed to minimize flooding. The fiberglass fuel, water and holding tanks are heavily bonded in place, adding tremendous rigidity to the hull and creating a double bottom, for additional safety. All interior bulkheads and furniture are bonded directly to the hull; there are no large fiberglass pans or liners in this fully structural, labor intensive construction method. The keel, tanks, and sub-sole are also solidly hand- laminated to the hull. The keel is not bolted on, and there are no external keel bolts to maintain or cause leaks. Instead, the keel shape is part of the hull mold. The weight of the keel and primary sea loads on it are evenly distributed throughout the entire grid structure.
Moreover, Caliber Yachts takes four steps to securely join and seal the hull to the deck. These steps make the Quad-Seal Deck to Hull System* extremely strong and dry: first, a tough, waterproof polyurethane adhesive chemically bonds the hull and deck; second, a waterproof co-polymer sealant ensures a watertight flange; third, an aluminum toe-rail is bonded to the hull and deck with polyurethane and thru-bolted with 0.25-inch stainless steel bolts set at six-inch intervals; finally, a stainless steel striker fastened around the rub-rail provides an additional moisture seal, and protects the hull around pilings and docks. The deck is cored with Marine Tech plywood cut into 2-7/8'' squares bedded in alternating layers of 1.5-ounce mat and 24-ounce roving. Extra layers of glass are laminated around the perimeter of the cabin and cockpit, and radiuses are reinforced with 18-oz. Fabmat fiberglass.
The rudder is the most vulnerable appendage on any boat's hull; therefore, Caliber has taken extra measures to ensure the rudder assembly is strong and well-protected. The molded rudder is constructed of a stainless steel plate welded to a 2” diameter stainless steel stock encapsulated in fiberglass. Loads on the rudderstock are handled by three supports: a solid stainless steel shoe attached to the bottom of the skeg, a bronze stuffing box at the waterline, and an uppermost bearing, which supports most of the rudder's load. The uppermost rudder bearing is housed inside the boat for ease of maintenance and protection from corrosion. This Triple- Support Rudder System* shares the rudder's load among three bearings - one more than on most boats. The structural skeg not only supports the lower end of the rudder and shaft, but also helps shield the entire assembly from damage in a grounding, as does the fact that the bottom of the structural skeg is also substantially higher than the bottom of the keel.
The Caliber 40 LRC's roomy cockpit is designed for safety and efficiency, even when sailing shorthanded or in foul weather. All sail control lines are led aft to the cockpit, controllable at the helm, and all winches are self-tailing for one-handed use. Even mainsail reefing, an awkward chore on many boats, is quick and easy on the 40 LRC, thanks to the single-line auto-reefing system with cockpit controls. The T-shaped cockpit accommodates an extra-large diameter wheel to allow a skipper to sit off to the side for a clear view of the sails. The stern pulpit with its solid ss tubing wraps around the cockpit for greater security in rough conditions, and even reaches further forward to the gates, for added security when transitioning from dock to deck to cockpit and back. Leeloo’s quality dodger, bimini, connector and cockpit enclosure provide excellent weather and sun protection and boast crystal polycarbonate panels facing forward, for excellent visibility without leaving the cockpit.
The spacious well-protected cockpit is also perfect as an outdoor living space. The cockpit seats six and has a custom foldaway table for meals or cocktails. An insulated cockpit icebox keeps cold food and drinks within easy reach. A swim ladder and boarding platform built into the transom make it easy to board a dinghy or take a swim. The boarding platform has its own folding self-rescue ladder for swimmers and a hand-held shower for rinsing off salt or sand. Leeloo’s factory-built dinghy davits and pulley system make launching or storing the dinghy also an easy single-handed operation.
At the forward end of a Caliber is another handy, functional feature: a distinctive anchor roller platform. Sturdily constructed of stainless steel, the platform simplifies anchor handling and stowage and reduces the risk of the anchor chipping the hull's gelcoat. The bow pulpit wraps the entire foredeck with ss tubing for security when working the foredeck in rough seas or setting or lifting the anchor.
