Stepping down from the bridge into the main salon you enter a relaxing space with a large leather sofa and coffee table to port and two reading chairs to starboard. The large windows provide great natural light and views. The forward end of the salon features a built-in bar and full beam custom cabinetry.  The television is hidden away on a lift behind the sofa. 

Moving forward from the main salon and through the totally updated and renovated galley you have the original "Crew cabin" with two bunks and en-suite head and shower facilities. This cabin could be used for crew or guests as the boat is easily operated by her current owner without a permanent crew.

The galley area has a large dinette to starboard and could be used as an informal dining area or as a crew mess. The galley appliances have all been updated and the area has ample storage and plenty of light from a number of portholes. The galley area is also the access point to the engine and mechanical spaces via a door to the port aft.

Aft of the main salon and down some steps you enter the main accommodation space. To port you have a guest cabin with two twin berths and an additional fold down pullman berth above. There is a hanging locker and plenty of storage both under the berths and in the center line vanity. Opposite the guest cabin is the guest/day head with a vanity, stall shower and undercounter washer/dryer.

Continuing aft you enter the full beam, primary stateroom with large Queen size island berth, oversize vanity and an abundance of storage in both drawers and multiple hanging lockers. The cabin is flooded with natural light through 4 large operable portholes. On the starboard side of the cabin forward the en-suite has a head, vanity and stall shower. All the accommodation spaces are tastefully finished in light fabrics and gloss white paint with nautical touches of dark blue throughout.  All LED lighting.

The wheelhouse sets the tone for the rest of the vessel, although appearing original with an oversize compass and centerline wheel, on closer inspection every inch of the space has been updated and improved. Modern electronic and electrical systems sit alongside stunning varnished wood and leather upholstered seating.  Sightlines from the helm are excellent and the sliding doors on either side give easy access to the side decks.

From the helm station a door opens to the fully enclosed aft deck. Sliding windows and a clear aft canvas enclosure enable this area to be opened to the elements when the weather allows. The area can easily seat 8 at the table with enough space for additional tables and seating if so desired. A built-in bar with fridge and icemaker is located at the forward end of this space, along with opening doors on both sides leading to the side decks. Access to the custom swim platform has been relocated to the starboard side aft.

• The boat was built in 1970/71 and launched in 1971.  It was registered as "Independence" for Hollis Baker III of the Baker Furniture Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  It has lived the majority of it's life in the Great Lakes and was based on Lake Oneida when I purchased the boat.
• The boat was unique in that the Cat 3406 engines were installed in 1992, had 2,500 hours on them and are estimated to run well in excess of 12,000 hours in pleasure use prior to overhaul.  The boat cruises at 13 knots at 1400 RPM and burns under 20 GPH at that speed.  Fuel capacity is 1,100 gallons in three tanks, so we generally fill up at the beginning and again late in the summer.  All tanks were accessed during my refit of the boat with the installation of man-hatches.  All tanks were completely tested for integrity after being scrubbed.  Water capacity is 400 gallons, and is carried in a tank under the galley sole; that tank was replaced in 2006 when the new galley was installed.
• The hull was eddy-current inspected prior to my completion of purchase.  All of the hull issues, which were in the engine room and keel around the main tank drain plug, were addressed by removal of corroded areas and replacement with new plate.  Stabilizers were removed as they were not considered necessary for coastal cruising and the mechanicals used a good deal of space in the engine room; the through-hull ports were welded up.
• These were minor repairs and are addressed in one of the engine room invoices sent separately.
• My objective in refitting the boat was to eliminate reliability issues by comprehensively upgrading the mechanical, electrical and navigation systems and to refinish the boat to a yacht standard in and out.
• Total costs on refit were well in excess of $600,000.  You have been provided with the detailed work scope, but in summary, the engines and engine room were $100,000; paint and wood were $175,000; the swim platform alone was $30,000; the new shafts, shaft couplings, props and rudder posts were $40,000; new wiring and panels were $40,000;25 hp Side Power bow thruster was $30,000; electronics were $70,000 including the navigation, communication equipment, internet and TV satellite equipment and mast; batteries and inverter systems were $30,000; interior and carpet were $50,000 over three years; the Whaler restoration and engine were $20,000, and there I stopped keeping track.
• The generator is a 15 KW Onan.  For Pacific Northwest cruising my intention was to have the boat able to run and sit without generator input.  It has smart charging and oversized alternator input to enable running without the generator.  The boat can also sit for 24 hours with four hours total generator input.  We run two hours in the morning and two hours late afternoon to maintain the battery banks for overnight at anchor.  
• The Mastervolt systems are oversized for the boat; one is dedicated to the house bank and one is dedicated to the anchor winch/thruster bank.  The system is about as close to bulletproof as can be installed.  This was all designed and installed with new wiring end to end; the old systems were completely eliminated.
