Beneteau Monte Carlo 5: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Boat Test Review on BoatTest.com

Overview

The Monte Carlo 52 by Beneteau represents an enhanced iteration of the MC lineup, developed in response to customer feedback. This model integrates luxury and innovative features throughout its design, offering a refined yachting experience. The vessel emphasizes spaciousness, comfort, and practical functionality both on deck and below.

Exterior Design and Bridge

The cockpit serves as a welcoming social area, featuring L-shaped seating at the stern and an additional seat on the port side, all sheltered by the extended flybridge deck positioned six feet, eight inches above the deck. Storage compartments are located on the starboard side and beneath the seating. The standard decking is teak in North America, with manufactured teak available elsewhere, and an optional solid teak expandable pedestal table can be installed. An extendable awning provides additional shade beyond the cockpit. The swim platform extends 58 inches from the transom and is hydraulically actuated with a lift capacity of 770 pounds, accessible via stairs on the starboard side. Forward on the platform, a galley area includes a sink, beverage holders, and an electric grill with storage below. A reboarding ladder is discreetly housed under a hatch on the starboard side. Access to the flybridge is via elegantly curved stairs, leading to a large upper deck that occupies nearly 70 to 80 percent of the boat's length. The flybridge features forward L-shaped seating offering the same vantage point as the captain, a U-shaped seating area with an expandable solid teak table, and a full-length sofa opposite. All seating areas are protected by a hardtop six feet, eight inches above the deck, which includes an electrically actuated opening sunroof. An elevated aft galley on the flybridge is equipped with an electric grill, sink, storage, and a refrigerated drawer. At the bow, two lounges measuring 90 by 37 inches convert into chaise lounges with lift-up seat backs and central beverage holders.

Interior Living Spaces

Entry to the interior is through wide sliding glass doors measuring four feet, five inches, revealing an open and airy environment with an average headroom of six feet, five inches. The salon benefits from abundant natural light through expansive windows that extend from high to low, providing clear horizon views. The galley features generous Corian counter space with beveled edges, a recessed stainless steel sink with pull-out sprayer, and a three-burner electric stove, though it lacks an overhead vent. Storage is ample, both above and below counters, complemented by a convection microwave. On the port side, there is an ice maker, refrigerator, and freezer arranged in drawers, with additional Corian counter space and storage beneath. The salon seating includes an L-shaped arrangement on the port side with storage behind, a corner seat, and a loveseat opposite. A 40-inch TV is mounted on an electric lift behind the loveseat. The table in the salon rests on two fixed pedestals with supportive rails for extending leaves.

Private Accommodations

The lower deck features an atrium-style entry that splits into two directions: forward to the VIP and guest staterooms, and aft to the master stateroom. The master stateroom is spacious and well-lit, with double beam hull-side windows and opening port lights for ventilation. Average overhead clearance is six feet, two inches, with the island berth measuring 76 by 62 inches, accessible via steps on both sides due to hull geometry. Storage is plentiful, including beneath the berth and behind it, along with open counter space. The master en suite head includes a hull-side window, mirrored aft bulkhead, concealed storage above the Corian counter-mounted sink, electric flush toilet, and a glass-enclosed shower. A corner seat and vanity with mirror are also present, alongside a 32-inch flat screen TV and a washer-dryer unit. The closet features a hull-side window, ample hanging space, drawers, and cubbies. Forward, the VIP stateroom has an island berth with steps on both sides, hull-side windows with opening port lights, and two skylights set into an Alcantara suede insert, significantly improving natural light over the previous model. Average headroom here is six feet, four inches, with 3 feet, six inches from the berth to the skylight insert. The berth can be split into two beds in a scissor fashion. Lockers are located on both sides, and a 24-inch flat screen TV is installed. The VIP en suite includes a walk-in shower and serves as a day head with a separate entrance. Across from the VIP, the guest stateroom contains two double berths spaced seven inches apart, hull-side windows with one opening port, and a hanging locker near the door. Headroom varies from six feet, five inches to six feet, nine inches between the berths.

Conclusion

The Monte Carlo 52 demonstrates significant enhancements over its predecessor, the MC5, reflecting thoughtful design improvements driven by customer input. Beneteau's design team has successfully combined luxury, functionality, and innovative features to create a yacht that offers spacious living areas, versatile social spaces, and comfortable private accommodations. The vessel's attention to detail in both exterior and interior design makes it a compelling option in its class.
