Well maintained 2006 Back Cove 26.  This boat is only used a few months out of the year and kept in a dry storage indoors.  This boat handles great and can maneuver around the tightest spot thanks to the bow and stern thruster along with the straight shaft prop coupled to the spotless Yanmar diesel engine.  This boat has all the comforts of home away from home. The appliances have never been used, manuals still in plastic inside.  Head has never been used, holding tank is still clean as the day the boat was born. Engine has only 200 hours on her. Come and see this boat and you will buy it.

Back Cove 26: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Overview

The Batcove 26 is a new addition to the Batcove Yachts lineup, serving as a smaller sister model to the Batcove 29. Rooted in the traditional down east yacht design, the 26 draws inspiration from the Spoonbill Lobster Boat heritage, combining classic styling with modern functionality. This model represents Batcove's continued progress, with the company currently producing multiple units monthly and focusing on delivering quality craftsmanship and performance.

Exterior Design and Deck Layout

The Batcove 26 features a hull with a slight tumblehome aft, a reverse transom, deep V shape, and prop pockets, contributing to its traditional aesthetic and seaworthy performance. The bow is protected by heavy-duty 1-inch 316 stainless steel rails, and the deck incorporates molded-in aggressive grip surfaces in contrasting tints for safety and style. A large anchor locker provides ample storage for ground tackle. The raised cabin top includes a centrally located large hatch vent, while the windshield is composed of three windows with side pop-out vents for ventilation. A wide walkway with molded steps leads from the bow to the cockpit, facilitating easy movement around the boat. The rear activity deck is equipped with two removable corner seats and under-hatch storage for fenders and fuel tank access. The swim platform at the stern is complemented by a custom casting and a deep-reach telescoping swim ladder, enhancing water access.

Helm and Controls

The helm station is designed for comfort and functionality, featuring seats with slide and swivel adjustments as well as under-seat storage. Cushions are removable for ease of maintenance. The helm console offers ample space for optional electronics installations. Controls are logically arranged, with rocker switches and a 12-volt socket positioned to the left of the hydraulic tilt wheel, alongside a Clarion stereo remote. To the right, operators find bow plane controls and a joystick for the bow thruster. The engine hatch is manually operated and designed for effortless lifting, providing convenient access to the engine compartment.

Engine and Maintenance Access

Powered by an optional 240 horsepower Yanmar engine, the Batcove 26 cruises comfortably at 3,000 RPM, achieving a speed of 25.6 miles per hour with an estimated range of 253 miles. The engine compartment is spacious enough to allow routine maintenance tasks, including access to batteries, oil dipsticks, and C-strainers. The hatch design facilitates easy opening without the need for electric assistance, underscoring the boat's practical engineering.

Interior Living Spaces

Below deck, the cabin layout is thoughtfully arranged to maximize comfort and utility. The starboard side houses the galley, which includes a deep sink, microwave, single burner cooktop, ample storage, and a refrigerator. Adjacent to the galley is a V-shaped dinette that serves as a relaxing area for dining or lounging. The table can be lowered and combined with cushions to convert the space into a large berth. The port side features a head compartment equipped with a portable light and air system, vanity, and a spacious toilet area, providing essential amenities for extended outings.

Dimensions and Performance

The Batcove 26 measures 26 feet 6 inches in length overall with a beam of 9 feet 2 inches. It displaces 8,500 pounds and has a draft of 2 feet 6 inches. Fuel capacity is 100 gallons, complemented by a 30-gallon freshwater tank. Performance testing with two people aboard and a full fuel load revealed a best cruising speed of 25.6 miles per hour at 3,000 RPM, with a top speed just under 30 miles per hour at 3,450 RPM. At top speed, the boat can cover approximately 204 miles on a full tank. The vessel planes quickly, achieving this state in 7.3 seconds, demonstrating efficient acceleration and handling.

Conclusion

The Batcove 26 successfully blends traditional design elements with modern performance and practical features. Its spacious and well-equipped interior, combined with thoughtful exterior details and reliable power, make it a versatile option for those seeking a classic down east yacht experience. The boat's performance metrics confirm its capability and efficiency, inviting potential owners to experience it firsthand through a test drive at local dealerships.
