The Sea-Doo Explorer Pro is a long-range adventure personal watercraft built for riders who want to load gear and cover distance rather than carve tight turns. It comes in two versions: the Explorer Pro 170, powered by a naturally aspirated 1630 ACE three-cylinder making 170 horsepower, and the Explorer Pro 230, which supercharges the same 1630 ACE block to 230 horsepower. Both run on Sea-Doo's ST3 fiberglass hull and use a closed-loop cooling system, and the engine accepts 87 octane fuel rather than the 91 some other Sea-Doo models require. The platform shares its hull, deck and ergonomics with the Fish Pro Sport, but in the Explorer Pro versus Fish Pro comparison the Explorer adds an extended rear deck with a second set of Link attachment points and a hard-mounted cargo platform, while the Fish Pro trophy models are offered in 170 horsepower only.

This is a sizable machine: 146.8 inches long, 49.4 to 49.6 inches at the beam, and 55.5 inches tall. The Explorer Pro 170 carries a dry weight near 890 pounds and the 230 around 917 pounds, and adding fuel, coolant, oil and battery pushes curb weight past 1,000 pounds. Total rated capacity is 600 pounds across three riders, with the rear platform rated for 221 pounds. With an 18.5-gallon fuel tank, the Explorer Pro 230 returns roughly 70 to 75 miles of range, and the dash displays a live time-to-empty readout alongside distance-to-empty. A selectable eco mode helps stretch the Explorer Pro range on longer rides, with normal and sport modes also available.

Storage is central to the design. The front bin holds 25.3 gallons, the glove box 0.8 gallons, and the included Explorer dry bag adds 26.4 gallons (100 liters) in a watertight, lockable duffel that can be carried as a backpack. The rear deck extension, which adds about 11.5 inches behind the Fish Pro layout, accepts multiple Link accessories at once, so fuel caddies, coolers and bins can be arranged across several mounting positions. A wide reboarding step sits at the transom, and the main under-seat storage opens right in front of the seated rider for easy access to safety gear and the fuel filler.

The helm on current Explorer Pro models centers on a 10.25-inch touchscreen, now standard, that responds to touch up to 8 mph and is also operated by handlebar buttons at speed. It runs Navionics mapping with programmable waypoints, group ride tracking (which needs cell service for live positions but supports downloadable offline maps), breadcrumb tracking and a 100-watt audio system. Earlier 2023 Explorer Pro 170 units instead used a 7-inch Garmin chart plotter with fish finder and a 7.8-inch color display tied to the BRP Go smartphone app. The standard touring windshield cuts bow spray and wind noise, the handlebars offer a riser, tilt adjustment and a steering damper, and gunnel footrests let riders sit sideways comfortably.

On the water, the Explorer Pro 230 has no shortage of power and accelerates hard in sport mode, and stability at slow speeds is strong enough to stand and rock the craft without taking water over the gunnel. Handling is the main caveat: the bow tends to wander, producing a busy ride that demands constant small corrections, and the damper set to its stiffest helps keep the bars from being pulled around. When heavily loaded with cargo and fuel over the transom, balance shifts rearward and the craft becomes harder to manage in chop. Heated hand grips are an option that suits cold-weather and off-season use, paired with the protection of the windshield.

For buyers, the 2024 and 2025 Sea-Doo Explorer Pro continue the same adventure formula, and a 2026 Explorer Pro 230 is also available. The 2023 Explorer Pro 170 carried a price of $16,799. When shopping an Explorer Pro 170 for sale or an Explorer Pro 230 for sale, note that the Link cooler is not included and must be purchased separately for fishing setups, and that the bow rail's fixtures are reinforced with steel plates for tying off to a dock or anchor. Popular Explorer Pro accessories include extra Link fuel caddies, coolers, dry bags and front-rail mounted gear.
