This beautiful custom cold-molded ketch absolutely must be seen to truly be appreciated. The hull is fiberglass encapsulated for ease of maintenance, while keeping the traditional wooden boat feel. The lines are lovely, yet the underbody is modern. The craftsmanship is amazing and while she looks like a classic "Woody", her gear is modern, high-quality and plentiful. Examples include: furling headsail ('11) solar panel, radar, and new standing and running rigging ('09).
Yankee Lady is a 40-foot, ketch-rigged sailboat. She is built as a cold-molded design constructed of wood. The boat is planked with 2 layers, each 3/8 inches thick, hung on a diagonal across fore and aft rib bands notched to vertical frames. The outer layer is hung fore and aft in traditional manner. Each layer is glued to the next with epoxy. In addition, below the waterline the hull is sheathed with fiberglass cloth and epoxy.
The deck of Yankee Lady is constructed of plywood laid on deck beans, which, in turn, are fastened to a beam shelf at the outboard end of the deck beams. The deck is overlaid with a teak plank veneer and black seam. There is a low toenail at the outboard edge of the deck and substantial rub rail over top of the sheer strake. Both of these rails go right around the full length of the sides of the boat.
The ribs are laminated mahogany, 2" wide by 14 layers thick. Stringers are 10" on the center made of mahogany 1x2 and are scarfed together. Dowels were used to connect the ribs and stringers. The internal keel is made up of 2 layers of 3/4" mahogany and 1 layer of 3/4" marine plywood. The stem is 3/4" marine plywood glued and staggered with an end dimension of 4" thick x 10" wide. The hull is made up of 1/4" mahogany, four 1/8" layers of western red cedar (laid on diagonal), then fiberglassed below the waterline. Above the waterline the hull is finished in 3/8" cherry, total hull thickness is 1 1/8". The first owner was a carpenter by trade and built two smaller boats prior to Yankee Lady. He started the boat in Connecticut in 1984 (Mystic Shipwright) and worked on her out of the water until 1993. Work was completed in 1995.
This boat is not turn key, she needs a knowledgeable owner who can devote the time needed for repairs and upkeep, serious inquires only.
