Starcraft 1915 Ob: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Overview

The Starcraft Limited 1915 is a 19-foot deck boat designed to accommodate a high passenger capacity, rated for up to 10 persons. Powered by an Evinrude E-Tech 115 outboard engine, this single-console vessel maximizes interior space, offering versatile seating and storage options. Its design and equipment make it well-suited for recreational activities in protected waters.

Exterior Design and Deck Layout

The boat’s single-console layout allows the port side to be fully utilized for lounge seating, complemented by a second lounge forward of the helm and a bench seat across the stern. Storage compartments are located beneath all seating areas. Access to the cockpit is available from three points: the bow, stern, and port side midships, where a cushion lifts to reveal a step. This step leads over a built-in, self-draining insulated wet locker that doubles as a cooler. The transom features stowage for two fenders and a three-step swim platform with a recessed reboarding ladder. A four-step beach reboarding ladder is mounted on the bow, and twin docking lights enhance visibility. The boat includes a full inner fiberglass liner and a standard bimini with a boot for sun protection. Channels are integrated to direct water away from cushions, which are secured with Velcro tabs. The footwell is notably wide and rounded, providing ample room for passengers’ feet.

Helm and Controls

The helm is equipped with a two-tone bucket seat featuring a bolster, swivel, and slide functions. Engine controls are side-mounted just below a wide cap rail that doubles as an armrest. A three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel is mounted on a tilt base. The console is finished in bright white, which may cause glare, and houses gauges on a gray panel with white bases and chrome bezels. A modest windscreen effectively deflects wind over the operator’s head. Forward on the console, a molded-in sink is operated by a pump handle, positioned adjacent to a drink holder; however, swapping their locations might improve usability.

Power and Performance

Powered by an Evinrude E-Tech 115 outboard turning a 13.5 by 15 SSP propeller, the Starcraft 1915 demonstrated solid performance during testing. With two people aboard and 25 gallons of fuel, the total test weight was 3,201 pounds. The boat reached a top speed of 39 miles per hour at 6,050 RPM, consuming fuel at 10.7 gallons per hour, which translates to a range of approximately 168 miles. The most efficient cruising speed was 32.3 miles per hour at 5,000 RPM, with a fuel burn of 8.27 gallons per hour, allowing for a range of 179 miles over five and a half hours. Acceleration was brisk, with a planing time of 3.2 seconds, 20 miles per hour reached in 5.7 seconds, and 30 miles per hour in 9.5 seconds. The modified dihedral hull enhances stability at rest and underway, while the reverse chine effectively deflects spray to keep the boat dry in moderate conditions. The hull design and relatively low freeboard make the boat best suited for protected waters rather than large lakes with long fetch and high winds. The boat’s power rating of up to 200 horsepower is more than sufficient for typical loads, with the 115-horsepower engine providing efficient performance for most applications.

Additional Features and Storage

The Starcraft 1915 comes well-equipped with features often optional on comparable boats. A 36-quart cooler is stowed under the port bench seat, and a removable table in the bow provides a convenient dining area when anchored. The cockpit deck includes an optional snap-in carpet lining. A long sole storage compartment between the helm console and port lounge is ideal for storing skis, though additional access hatches would improve convenience. The boat’s design incorporates thoughtful details such as channels to direct water away from cushions and Velcro tabs to secure them in place.

Conclusion

Overall, the Starcraft Limited 1915 Outboard is a well-designed and efficiently powered deck boat that meets the needs of recreational boaters seeking a high-capacity vessel for protected waters. Its spacious layout, ample storage, and standard equipment package provide good value and usability. Performance testing confirms that the 115-horsepower Evinrude engine offers a balanced combination of speed, fuel efficiency, and handling suitable for a variety of activities including skiing and wakeboarding. While some minor ergonomic improvements could be made at the helm, the boat presents a solid option for those prioritizing passenger capacity and versatility in a compact footprint.
