This cruiser is a 37' Rawson Pilot House Trawler. She is a rugged and beautiful boat custom designed by Ed Monk Sr and built by Ron Rawson, Inc (Redmond WA) to safely cruise and adventure the ocean waters of northwest Washington, British Columbia and Alaska. Perhaps the perfect trawler: durable solid fiberglass hull; well maintained and regularly upgraded systems; comfortable underway, at anchor off the grid or at the dock; and economical to operate. The raised pilothouse design provides ideal visibility for cruising, anchoring or access from midship while docking. Polaris is ready to cruise weekends or multi-month trips.
The vessel is a 1970 trawler with a semi-displacement hull, a raked stem, deep-vee bow, rounded chine and slightly rounded transom and FRP swim-step. The regular maintenance and upgrades results in an effective age equal to boats that are much newer. The transom boarding door opens to a partially covered stern deck. There are walk-around (non-skid painted) gunwale decks on both sides of the main cabin (cabin-top grab rail). The lazarette is accessed through a hatch in the teak covered stern deck (rudder post, hot water tank, hurricane furnace and exhaust piping). Forward from the stern deck entering the main cabin the galley is directly to port. On the starboard side is an enclosed head/shower combination. Then midship is the main salon with a sofa sleeper couch, table and additional seating. The salon flooring has hinged hatches (with pneumatic shock assist) to access both the engine room and battery compartment. Panels for the AC, DC & generator systems are located on starboard wall. Forward from the salon are two sets of companionway stairs. The center stairs lead down into the master stateroom with full size berth to port and single berth or storage to starboard. There is a second head with vacuflush toilet and sink. Other stairs lead up to the raised pilothouse with egress to both port and starboard midship. There is a settee situated with excellent visibility of the changing panorama. Settee converts to a comfortable captains bunk. As furnished the forward stateroom, sofa sleeper and settee provide comfortable sleeping for 5. Out either pilothouse door and forward is the spacious foredeck with line locker and electric windlass. A s/s ladder mounted on the port side of pilothouse leads up to the boat deck. A rigid hull inflatable tender skiff (stowed in a cradle) is on the boat deck. There is a davit and electric winch for launch and lifting of the tender skiff. For protective storage there is canvas, in very good shape, that covers the 7 pilot house windows, the skiff and “slant back” section to keep the back deck dry and protected.
