Palm Beach style helm of the Rampage 45 Convertible offers single-lever controls for precise handling when backing down on billfish. With an angled electronics array to starboard, both captain and mate have direct lines of sight to large instruments. The ample bridge overhang provides plenty of cockpit shade but still gives the captain a view of rod tips fished from the chair below. The 130-square-foot aft cockpit features a bait rigging station, livewell, bait freezer, and two double-hinged floor fish boxes. The cockpit sole is reinforced with a one-half inch aluminum plate for chair installation. Wide side decks with diamond non-skid surfaces make getting forward safe and easy. The L-shaped settee houses rod storage under the port section. The galley features pullout drawer refrigeration and freezer, convection microwave and two-burner stove. The full home entertainment center and plenty of extra seating at the dinette make the 45 salon the place to trade fish stories. The island berth in the forward stateroom has easy-access drawers under the queen berth and large bulk storage forward. To starboard is a cedar-lined hanging locker with another locker to port when it doesn't house the optional washer dryer unit. The private forward stateroom head is accessible only from the stateroom for complete privacy. The shower area is spacious for a 45-foot convertible and even has a built-in seat. The day head on the 45 is directly athwartships of the second stateroom and has its own enclosed shower area to keep the head dry and cleanup to a minimum. The walk-in engine room has a cockpit door entry and plenty of room all around the engines.

Rampage 45 Convertible: BoatTEST Review
Overview
The 2012 Rampage 45 Convertible represents a new addition to the Rampage lineup, designed to blend fishing functionality with comfortable cruising accommodations. This model features a spacious cockpit and thoughtfully arranged interior spaces, aiming to meet the needs of both owner-operators and their guests.
Exterior Design and Cockpit
The cockpit of the Rampage 45 Convertible measures twelve and a half feet by eight feet, providing approximately 100 square feet of space—comparable to cockpits found on some 50-foot boats. This generous area offers versatility for fishing activities or relaxing with deck chairs while enjoying the view. Practical design elements include gutters running around the cockpit that lead to six-inch scuppers for efficient drainage, and robust 12-inch cleats with stainless steel hosels. Although the flybridge was not yet installed during the initial inspection, the design allows for a plug-and-play installation. The side decks feature two springline cleats for secure mooring. At the bow, a stainless steel Maxwell windlass is installed alongside a separate cleat for the anchor rode, dual foot controls, and an integrated bow pulpit. One suggested improvement is the addition of a small access hatch near the windlass to facilitate clearing any anchor line tangles.
Engine Room and Power
The engine room is designed with owner-operator convenience in mind, offering crouching headroom and easy access to both sides of the engines via a central walkway. The test vessel was equipped with Caterpillar C18 ACERT engines producing 885 horsepower each. The base engine option is the Caterpillar C12, rated at 715 horsepower per engine, with an alternative option of MAN R6 engines delivering 800 horsepower. All engine choices include trolling valves to enhance low-speed control and maneuverability. The layout allows for straightforward daily maintenance and inspections.
Interior Living Spaces
Entering the enclosed salon, one immediately notices the excellent all-around visibility and the inviting atmosphere created by the ultra-leather upholstered seating. The salon features opposing L-shaped couches that can convert into berths, fostering an intimate and sociable environment that keeps the galley area connected to the main living space. Overhead clearance measures six feet eight inches, contributing to a spacious feel. Amenities include a small refrigerator accessible from both the salon and cockpit, a 31-inch diagonal flat-screen television mounted on the forward bulkhead, and climate control for comfort. The flooring consists of a teak and holly sole beneath carpeting, extending seamlessly into the galley area. The galley itself offers ample counter space with fiddles to prevent items from sliding, cabinetry with deep shelves suitable for full-size plates, and a two-burner electric stove equipped with adjustable C-rails for cookware security. Additional features include a microwave, a built-in coffee maker, a single basin sink with a pull-out sprayer and stainless steel hose, and multiple drawers and cabinets for storage. Refrigeration is provided by two refrigerated drawers and two freezer drawers, arranged at different heights for convenience. A suggested enhancement would be the installation of a rail across the center of the salon to improve safety in rough seas.
Private Accommodations
Forward accommodations include a guest head to starboard that also functions as a day head. It features a separate shower stall with a curved door and ample storage space capable of holding full-size shampoo bottles. The vanity area includes a full-size single basin sink with storage both above and below behind mirrored doors. The guest stateroom offers flexible sleeping arrangements with a Pullman berth above and two single berths below that can be converted into a queen-size berth using a filler cushion. The owner's stateroom is equipped with a queen-size island berth with access on both sides, a combination washer and dryer to port, a flat-screen TV and DVD player, separate climate control, and extensive storage that wraps around the room. The private owner's en suite head includes a separate shower stall, providing comfort and privacy.
Conclusion
The Rampage 45 Convertible demonstrates a well-balanced design that caters to both serious anglers and cruising families. Its spacious cockpit, versatile interior layout, and thoughtfully engineered engine room make it a compelling choice in the convertible sportfishing category. While minor enhancements such as an access hatch near the windlass and additional safety rails in the salon could improve functionality, the overall package offers a high level of comfort and practicality for extended time on the water.
