Design & Construction
The Prout 45 features a solid fiberglass hull with a hand-laid layup, no balsa core below the waterline, and a reinforced bridgedeck. Designed for ocean crossings, her hulls are narrow and efficient, contributing to better upwind performance than many modern cruising cats. Her low-profile cabin and moderate beam of 20' 10" provide a sleek, aerodynamic silhouette, enhancing performance and fuel efficiency.
Interior Layout
This model boasts a 3 cabin layout with an owner's suite in one hull and guest accommodations in the other. The interior is warmly finished in rich teak or cherry wood with ample natural light and ventilation. The salon includes a large wraparound settee, a central dining table, and a nav station with excellent visibility. The galley down is equipped with a propane stove, oven, double sink, and generous storage-perfect for long passages.
Performance & Systems
Under sail, the Prout 45 is well-balanced and stable, with its trademark mast positioned forward near the center pod for reduced pitching. She carries a cutter rig with a fully battened mainsail and furling headsails, allowing for flexible sail plans in various conditions. Twin diesel 50hp Volvo Penta engines provide reliable power for maneuvering and cruising under motor.
Notable Features:
- Cutter-rigged sloop for versatility and balance
- Proven ocean-crossing capability
- Durable construction with solid fiberglass hulls
- Comfortable liveaboard layout with full galley and salon
- Wide transom steps for easy water access
