Own a classic. If you are thinking safety and offshore sailing, you should seriously research boats. Please search Pearson Vanguard 1966 32'. Designed by Phillip Rhodes and built on Rhode Island at a time he was designing winning Americas Cup yachts. The Vanguard's remarkable ability to stay upright, dry, and on course has been well documented.
Current owner sailed three days in 10m "confused seas." Waves came from all points, wind above 25k. Gusts?? The Vanguard sailed level and dry on deck & cockpit. The chart plotter dots were exactly in line and pointed to Bermuda 500 miles to the north. Raymarine auto pilot, powered by Airex marine wind generator, did all the work.
After two days in Bermuda two delivery boat crews from St. Thomas arrived. Surprised to see Delfini II, both then said,
"Of course, you've got a Vanguard."
That's what you want offshore.
Every surface "repainted"
New 1/2" thick plate aluminum mast step
