Overview

During '93 to '95, this limited series 36' Monk Trawler Yacht was one of few built in Nova Scotia where boat building is a proud tradition and distinctively noted for seaworthiness and exceptional building techniques.

Prior to '93 the Monk 36's were built in Asia where teak decks, trim, window frames, eyebrows and other wood trim were utilized. Major exterior changes were made to include powder coated aluminum window frames, heavier s/s rails and stanchions, a very comfortable beige non skid surface on all deck areas and the interiors underwent a beautiful upgrade of satin finished solid teak tongue and groove vertical staving on the walls and bulkheads along with high quality furniture joinery that became the hallmark of this new 36 Monk Trawler Yacht from Canada.

Also, more upgrades became standard such as marble vanity tops and a tiled shower stall while for the “Derreen” special custom yet functional features designed and built by John Hollenbach* were added throughout the yacht.

Her Perkins 135hp engine reportedly drives “Derreen” at an economical 7.2 knots while sipping fuel. Below, the illuminated engine room is roomy, easily accessible, well organized, clean and bright.

Safety on deck became evident with heavier high quality North American stainless steel rails and stanchions.

Except for the aft cabin design change whereby the queen berth was made centerline and surrounded with gnerous storage, the layout and hull design remain basically the same as other Monk 36 trawlers. However, "Derreen" does stand apart from the rest as one of the limited edition Monk 36 “Trawler Yachts” to possibly consider. Come visit the “Derreen” and see the difference.
