A heavily built yacht, 135hp Lehman diesels cruise at 8–9 knots. With 750 gallons of fuel, the cruising range can exceed 1,000 nautical miles. At 7 knots this boat only burns 2 1/2 GPH.  She was built at the Lien Hwa shipyard in Taiwan on a solid fiberglass hull with moderate beam, a deep forefoot, and a long prop-protecting keel. Typical of most Asian-built boats of her era, traditional teak paneling and cabinets are used extensively throughout the interior of the 50 MY. Topside, the flybridge is arranged with dinghy storage aft and guest seating forward around the helm. The entire vessel has beautiful teak parquet floors. This is a three stateroom, four head vessel, this includes a day head off the main salon.

" Lucky Star " would be a great live aboard or the perfect " Loop " cruiser with plenty of room for everyone.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1988 Marine Trader Wide Body is a classic trawler that has earned a reputation for its spacious design and seaworthy capabilities. Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons of this particular model:

Pros

Spacious Interior: The wide body design offers a roomy living space, making it ideal for extended voyages or comfortable living aboard. The open layout provides excellent visibility and ample natural light.

Sturdy Construction: Marine Trader boats are known for their solid construction and seaworthiness. The heavy-duty hull can handle various sea conditions, ensuring a safe and reliable experience on the water.

Fuel Efficiency: The Marine Trader Wide Body typically features a single diesel engine, which provides good fuel efficiency for long-range cruising. This makes it a cost-effective choice for voyagers looking to minimize fuel costs.

Classic Aesthetics: With its traditional trawler lines and classic wooden detailing, the Marine Trader Wide Body has an enduring charm that appeals to many boating enthusiasts.

Comfortable Accommodations: The boat usually includes two staterooms and a head, offering comfortable sleeping arrangements for families or guests. The galley is well-equipped for meal preparations.

Stable Performance: The wide beam gives the boat stability while at rest and underway, making it a great choice for those who enjoy fishing, entertaining, or relaxing on the water.

Cons

Older Design: Being a 1988 model, some features and systems may feel outdated compared to newer vessels. Upgrades may be necessary to enhance comfort and convenience.

Maintenance Requirements: Like many older boats, the Marine Trader Wide Body may require more frequent maintenance, especially concerning the engine, electronics, and any wooden components.

Limited Speed: Trawlers are typically designed for slow cruising rather than speed, which may not suit those looking for a faster boating experience. The slower pace can also mean longer travel times.

Weight: The construction materials and design can make the Marine Trader Wide Body heavier than newer models, which could impact maneuverability in certain situations.

Dependence on Diesel Mechanics: While diesel engines are known for their durability, they can require specialized knowledge for repairs and maintenance that may not be readily available everywhere.
