This 1986 Marine Trader 43 Tradewinds is a classic diesel trawler offering an exceptionally spacious layout for extended cruising, weekends aboard, or liveaboard use.

Power is provided by twin 210 HP Cummins six-cylinder turbo diesels with approximately 1,558 and 1,659 hours showing on the meters at the time of the listing visit. The vessel offers both upper and lower helm stations with Cummins Marine instrumentation.

According to the vessel's prior Pop listing, the original Lehman engines were replaced in 1990 with the currently installed Cummins diesels. The current seller reports the vessel operated fine when it was transported from Georgia to Jacksonville following his purchase, and he subsequently took it out one additional time before laying it up. He also reports both Cummins were last started and run approximately six months prior to listing to verify operation. The fuel tanks were subsequently drained for storage because he did not plan to operate the vessel and wanted to leave them without aging fuel aboard.

The exterior layout provides plenty of room to spread out. The cockpit offers space for relaxing or fishing and convenient access to the swim platform. Above, the aft deck and flybridge create a large outdoor entertaining area. The upper helm includes seating for guests, and the flybridge seating and helm covers were observed in good condition.

Inside is the warm woodwork and generous accommodation these classic Marine Traders are known for. The spacious salon includes seating and the lower helm, while the galley-down arrangement keeps the cooking area separate from the main living space.

There are two private sleeping areas. Forward is a cabin with a single V-berth, while the large aft owner's stateroom provides considerably more room and its own private head. A second head serves the forward portion of the vessel, and the aft head includes a tub/shower.

Equipment includes a Westerbeke generator showing approximately 4,306 hours, Garmin 740s, VHF radio, digital depth finder, air conditioning, and upper and lower helm stations.

Prior to the current owner's purchase through Pop in 2022, the previous listing documented an October 2021 haul-out and bottom job, fuel tank cleaning in 2019, and hydraulic steering replacement in 2019. The previous owner also reported that the vessel had historically been hauled and bottom-painted approximately every two years, with zincs replaced as needed.

The current seller reports having the bottom cleaned by a diver and the zincs replaced in 2025. Beyond that maintenance and having the fuel drained, he reports no significant repairs or upgrades during his ownership.

This is an older vessel being offered with deferred maintenance and known condition needs. For a buyer comfortable taking on a classic trawler that needs attention, the Tradewinds offers substantial accommodations, a desirable twin-Cummins power package, and an excellent liveaboard-style layout at a price that reflects the work ahead.

Condition

The vessel needs substantial cleaning and deferred maintenance. The interior retains extensive wood cabinetry and trim, but significant water-related deterioration is visible in the wood beneath the forward windows and along the dash/ledge extending toward the lower helm. Portions appear rotted. The source and full extent of the water intrusion have not been professionally evaluated.

Exterior fiberglass generally presents respectably for its age, while the exterior teak and brightwork are weathered and need cleaning and refinishing. The flybridge seating and helm covers appeared in good condition. The former flybridge canvas enclosure was damaged and has been removed, with portions remaining aboard.

Pest activity was observed aboard during the listing visit. An unpleasant odor was also noted in the common head. The head and sanitation system need cleaning, flushing, and evaluation as necessary. Water was observed in the bilge.

Approximately half of the interior lights were not operating during the visit, and the AC electrical panel was unsecured at its mounting.

The prior Pop listing disclosed an inoperative windlass, a minor exhaust leak, and a Westerbeke generator that ran but needed service/tune-up. The seller reports no major repairs to these items during his ownership.

The seller reports the vessel operated fine when it was transported from Georgia to Jacksonville following his purchase and that he subsequently took it out one additional time before laying it up. He reports both Cummins engines were last started and run approximately six months prior to listing to verify operation. The fuel tanks were subsequently drained for storage because the seller did not plan to operate the vessel and wanted to avoid leaving aging fuel aboard. The engines were therefore not operationally tested during the current listing visit.

The seller has not operated the Westerbeke generator during his ownership, so its present operating condition is unknown.
