Original owner! The cost to build the "Reunion" in 2002 was $1,250,000.
The 2002 Legacy 52 "Express" Motor Yacht "Reunion" is a standout example of the "Downeast" style-a blend of traditional New England aesthetics and high-performance modern engineering. Built by Freedom Yachts in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and designed by the renowned naval architect Bill Langan (previously at Spearkman & Stephens for many years) this model was the flagship of the Legacy line.
The Legacy 52 is built on a deep-V hull with a sharp entry, a 22-degree deadrise amidships and 17-degree deadrise at the transom. This design allows it to slice through heavy seas comfortably while maintaining stability. Powered by twin 825 horsepower 60 Series Detroit Diesels (the marinized version of GM's "Million Mile" truck engine) she cruises comfortably at 23-24 knots burning 40-42 GPH. One of the most praised features of this specific model is its sound insulation. Even at high speeds, the noise level in the salon is remarkably low (around 76 decibels). She features shallow prop tunnels for reduced draft, a skeg for improved tracking and wide chine flats for increased lift at speed and stability at lower speeds or while at rest.
The Legacy 52 Express is a semi-custom yacht. Individual boats like Reunion may have specific owner-requested modifications, and this "Express" 52 layout is highly regarded for its "open" feel. Unlike many yachts of its size, the 52's interior lacks heavy vertical bulkheads, creating a seamless, airy flow between the salon, galley, and helm. "Reunion" is configured with a two-stateroom, two-head layout. The master suite is forward with an island queen berth, while the guest cabin features a twin berth. High-end cherry joinery and cabinetry are hallmarks of the Freedom Yachts era, giving the interior a warm, classic feel.
The Legacy 52 was produced in limited numbers. "Reunion" was hull #2, and we believe the only "Express" model ever built. Because they were built by Freedom Yachts-a company also known for high-quality sailboats-the construction is exceptionally robust.
