This 4 cabin boat has the forward port cabin converted into a large pantry, making for a great Port Owner's Hull, with a Queen cabin, Head, Galley and Huge Pantry forward!

First introduced in 1991, the Lagoon 42 is a boat of the style, build and layout quality that accelerated the popularity of the cruising catamaran in the USA. The Lagoon 42's were made by TPI (Pearson in Rhode Island) with their state-of-the-art resin infusion process, and designed by the innovative French naval architects Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot Prevost (Jeanneau). The optimized hull construction using balsa and vinyl ester resin saves weight, which improves performance and sea-keeping. You will also never see a blister on these boats!

With striking good looks the catamaran received a lot of attention at her introduction to the market. Accentuated curves of the bridge deck cabin give the design panache as well as keeping the windage low and allowing her to point higher when close hauled.

As planned, many Lagoon 42's were sold into the charter market, yet the boat is much more than just a party platform. She is a thorough blue water cruiser with excellent seakeeping, handles easily, points well and can cruise at high average speeds in comfort.

Awarded Sailing Multi-hull and overall Boat of the Year 1991 by Sailing World Magazine.

4 large cabins originally!  Cabin forward of the galley has been converted to a large pantry.  Therefore the owner's port aft cabin, head, galley down and forward pantry are all in the same port hull.  How convenient!! 2 heads Galley down A feature of this early TPI is the opening port in the transom of each of the rear cabins making excellent ventilation to the hulls.  

Saloon

Beautifully maintained cabinetry throughout the boat! U-shaped settee with round table. Separate chart table with storage. Book shelf. Outside shading for windows. Inside drapes on saloon windows. Holly/teak effect floors throughout the interior. Extensive storage. 2 opening hatches and a large sliding door.

Galley

Spacious Galley Down Layout Shiny 2 burner propane stove and oven. Built-in fridge, Frigaboat 2012 Built-in freezer, Frigaboat (Makes ice) Corian type countertops with a double sink. Fresh water by electric pump. Foot pump for sea water. Generous cupboard storage.

Cabins

2 aft cabins with queen-sized berths and side locker and seat. Extra hatch as mentioned. 1 cabin forward on Starboard side with double berth and shelving. 1 large walk-in pantry in the former Port side forward cabin. All cabins have cupboards and drawers, fans and extensive under berth storage.  

Heads

1 in each hull. Lavac with manual pump. Bladder for waste storage option. Stainless Steel sink. Handheld shower. Shower Sump pumps. In starboard hull is a wet locker, Circuit Breaker Panel and storage cupboards.  

Cockpit and Deck

Large cockpit with wrap-around seating and cushions. Drop leaf table. Folding Sunbrella bimini. Extensive lazarette and other lockers. Edson pull/pull cable steering and helm. 2 very large storage lockers in bows, anchor and propane lockers, and more storage in stern steps. Jack lines! Davits with 9.8’ ZAR MINI dinghy (2018). Yamaha 15 hp outboard Cold Swim shower on Stb Stern.

EPIRB, 4 x offshore life jackets, 1 x Tether 2 x throwable horseshoe life rings, and a strobe light.  Air horn, 4 x automatic bilge pumps, 2 x manual bilge pumps operated from cockpit. Roving bilge pump, 3 x hand held fire extinguishers. Emergency escape hatch (Sealed). Hinged swim ladder from lowest stern step. Mast head and deck level nav lights.

Water System

200 US gals between 3 tanks. Pressurized cold water to all sinks and deck shower on aft steps. Watermaker, pickled 12 years ago, should be replaced.  

Electrical

3 x 250 watt solar panels (2018). Solar controller. Magnum Energy battery monitor. 4 x AGM house batteries and 2x starter batteries. Separate 12 volt and 110 volt electric panels and circuit breakers. Dockside power leads. 2000 W Magnum Sine Wave inverter (2015).

Electronics & Navigation

Raymarine Autopilot GARMIN chart plotter. ICOM VHF 2019 (No AIS) SSB Icom 710 and tuner  

Engines & Mechanical

THE PORT ENGINE FAILED THE COMPRESSION TEST.
It is dismantled.  

The Starboard engine is having a hard time starting due to no use.  We feel the piston rings are frozen and therefore lacks compression.  In hindsight, I feel that was the problem with the Port engine, but the mechanic took the cylinder head off and condemned it.

THE LARGE DISCOUNT is to compensate for this.

The Starboard engine is a PERKINS M30 30 hp. Reconditioned in 2019 with Only ~500 hours since. 

The engines are accessible from the stern transom hatches and under the aft berths. Oil and Filters are changed every 100 hours. 

80 US gal diesel between 2 Aluminum tanks. 

Shaft Drive transmissions. 

3-bladed bronze propellers. 

Ground Tackle: 55 lb galvanized steel Rocna anchor with 175ft of 3/8” galvanized steel chain. 

Electric windlass. 

Dinghy has a 15hp Yamaha outboard we couldn't start either.

NOTE:
I GOOGLED WHAT ENGINE CAN REPLACE THE CURRENT PERKINS:

A suitable replacement engine for a 1993 Perkins M30 in a Lagoon TPI 42 with direct drive could be a modern 3-cylinder marine diesel engine from Yanmar, Kubota, or a newer generation Perkins with similar power output (around 25-30 horsepower), ensuring compatibility with the existing transmission and shaft system while providing improved efficiency and emissions standards.    Key factors to consider when choosing a replacement engine:

  • Power output: Match the new engine's horsepower to the original Perkins M30 to maintain performance and boat handling characteristics.
  • Engine size and footprint: Ensure the new engine fits within the existing engine bay and aligns with mounting points for a smooth installation.
  • Direct drive compatibility: Verify the new engine can be directly coupled to the existing propeller shaft without requiring transmission modifications.
  • Fuel efficiency: Look for a modern engine with improved fuel economy compared to the older Perkins M30.
  • Emissions compliance: Choose an engine that meets current emission standards for your region.   

Specific engine options to explore:

  • Yanmar 3JH4E: A reliable 3-cylinder marine diesel engine with a good power-to-size ratio and modern features.
  • Kubota V2203-M: Another solid choice with good fuel efficiency and compact design.
