The head forward takes up nearly a third of the hull length, and has a huge shower with a nicely-appointed bathroom. Moving aft there’s a desk, and an island bed which is low for easy access. Large hull windows mean the captain can do a quick visual of the surroundings from his or her berth.

The port hull has two cabins and two heads. The aft stateroom has the same low island berth as the master, and a private head with a separate shower stall. The forward cabin has a smaller head/shower combination but also has access to a bow compartment that may be used to stash luggage or extra gear.

  • Easy access to the water maker is located in the storage compartment under the forward Port cabin mattress.
  • The forward portside guest cabin was used for storage and does not have a mattress.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 2017 Lagoon 42 is a popular cruising catamaran known for its blend of comfort, performance, and modern design. Here are some of the pros and cons to consider:

Pros

Spacious and Comfortable Layout: The Lagoon 42 offers a well-thought-out interior with ample living space, featuring a large saloon, multiple cabins, and generous storage, making it ideal for extended cruising and liveaboard comfort.

Modern Design: With sleek lines and a contemporary aesthetic, the Lagoon 42 combines style with functionality, providing an attractive vessel both above and below deck.

Performance: Equipped with efficient sail plans and twin engines, the Lagoon 42 delivers good sailing performance and maneuverability, suitable for both novice and experienced sailors.

Ease of Handling: The catamaran’s design allows for relatively straightforward handling, including easy docking and anchoring, which enhances the overall sailing experience.

Stability: As a catamaran, it offers excellent stability at anchor and underway, reducing motion and increasing comfort for passengers.

Customization Options: The boat is available in various configurations, allowing owners to tailor layouts and features to their specific needs.

Cons

Price Point: The Lagoon 42 is positioned in the higher price range for cruising catamarans, which may be a consideration for budget-conscious buyers.

Docking Space Requirements: Due to its beam width, it requires more marina space compared to monohulls, which can lead to higher docking fees and limited availability in some ports.

Performance in Light Winds: While generally efficient, the Lagoon 42 may be less responsive in very light wind conditions compared to some lighter or more performance-oriented catamarans.

Maintenance: As with many modern cruising catamarans, the complexity of systems and equipment can lead to higher maintenance demands and costs.

Weight: The robust build and luxury fittings add weight, which can impact speed and agility compared to lighter, race-oriented catamarans.

Made For

The 2017 Lagoon 42 is perfect for sailors seeking a spacious and comfortable cruising catamaran that balances performance with luxury. It is ideal for families, couples, or groups of friends who want ample living space, easy handling, and modern amenities for extended voyages or coastal cruising.
