Salty Dog – Norwegian Built Whaling Launch

This beautiful classic antique boat was owned by Wally Bishop, an American cartoonist who drew his syndicated Muggs and Skeeter comic strip for 49 years. GOOGLE - Wally Bishop - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and Bishop Center - About Wallace Bond “WallyBishop.

It was built in Grimstaad, Norway, a town that had at one point 2500 whale boat builders. Salty Dog was totally rebuilt by the Sailor’s Wharf Yacht Yard between 2000 – 2006 as a show boat to represent the boat yard. A new oak keel was installed and all the fasteners on the fir planks were replaced. West System epoxy was used and the hull has two layers of fiberglass with a complete Awlgrip paint system (545 epoxy primer with Awlgrip urethane top coat). A new 20 hp  Albin Mod. #AD-2 Lifeboat Diesel was installed in 2005 and has less than 50 hours on it and all the parts are still available. The boat has closed cell flotation cushions covered with Sunbrella blue fabric. There is a new Sunbrella cover that closed the entire open part of the boat. The boat comes with a new Magic Tilt aluminum trailer with duel brakes. Salty Dog was used as the lead boat for the St Petersburg Lighted Boat Parade and other functions at the invitation of the mayor or Chamber of Commerce and displayed at boat shows. It is a classic one of a kind that would be a great boat for cruising rivers and lakes.
